CASE Humpback

Eric, that's interesting. I got a Humpback Stockman in Harvest bone some time ago and it's my first below par CASE. It came in a nice tin(like the Swayback) but unlike the Swayback it is not well finished although it looks fine, initially.

Plenty of gaps in the backspring-it has two springs where the Whittler has three I believe. No blade rub it's true and good snap but both the main Spear and secondary Sheepfoot have wobble a plenty, real shakers. It's a shame as the bone is nicely done and well seated, shield is nice&flush too. I hesitate to return it a)as I live outside the US and b)have had it in my pocket for a month so I suppose that voids warranty? Anybody know who I contact at CASE on e-mail for an opinion? Thanks W.

That is one thing I forgot to mention. There is also no blade play in this one. That is untypical since I usually get one with blade play. It was such a problem, that I learned to fix it myself and don't worry about blade play issues anymore :)

Anyway, Case knives are warrented for life, even users, so sending it back to adjust blade play wouldn't be any problem, other than expense.

Eric.

Here is an extreme closeup, show all flaws, photo of the spine.

Another benefit you may not have considered. :D

Yep! I accidentally discovered that last week while listening to music and imbibing an adult beverage...spent the next mesmerized hour gazing at the Humpback Spin like a total idiot :D. With a bit of practice, you can work that little sucker up to some serious RPMs.

Edit: forgot to add that you can fully open the main blade, and partially open the pen blades 'till the handle is nicely balanced and you'll add a whole new dimension to your spinning pleasure.*

*I assume no responsibility for blindness or dismemberment.

I've had my eye on this knife for a little while:

I really like how "clean" and simple it is. And the price seems just about right! Before I buy, though, I wanted to get some feedback from folks who have owned this knife or have had a lot of experience with Case's modern folders, and if there are similar designs I should take a look at.

I'm not usually a big fan of traditional folders, but I've seen some really beautiful specimens browsing around this part of the forum, especially Tony Bose's work.

And the more I look at them, the more they grow on me. So, is this a good introductory slipjoint?

*Edit* thanks for merging this into this thread. MORE than enough info in here, great pictures too. I'm pretty much sold.

I haven't owned one, but am intrigued by the design. I have big hands and just never grew found of the standard Whittlers. This one appears to be a touch bigger.

I'm not real big on G10 on slip joints though and would prefer bone scales..
Thats just a personal preference ymmv.
It appears that as of late, Case quality control has been stepped up a few notches. It is nice to know that in case you do get one that snuck through and has issues, they will take good care of you.

So as far as a first slip joint ? Heck ya. I think it would be a great choice

I love mine.I say go for it.I really like the blade finish it hides scratches.

Friends, here comes a Happy Ending just in time for Christmas:D Disney or what....

A while back i complained about a below par Humpback Stockman, the first weak knife I've had from CASE. I got round to e-mailing them, took a fair time to get an acknowledgement then they said they would send me a new one! More waiting....I got back in touch with them and the very polite woman in charge of Customer Service, Misty Kness apologized and said it was en transit. Yesterday the local UPS man delivered me a brand new CASE Humpback stockman in Harvest Bone complete with presentation tin-handy for stuff!

The replacement knife is tight, no gaps,no wobble and really well finished. Especially impressive is that I am not a US citizen and live in the EU so CASE's commitment seems truly global, other companies might have turned a blind eye to a foreign sale, not CASE. My thanks to Misty Kness and all the workers at WR Case for their efforts, seasons's greetings to them, it's a fine knife:thumbup:

Willgoy, I am glad to hear that Case made it right for you. I have always had good luck with their customer service. Merry Christmas and enjoy your new little friend!
