Case knives

Mike Latham (owner of collector knives) has a BF dealer membership. I have purchased a number of knives from him. He posts frequently in the Traditional Forum. I consider him to be a good source of information. He's handled a whole lot more Case knives than I have.

But, especially since the 2007+ timeframe, the quality on a pattern by pattern basis seems really consistent. The backsprings have closed up, the blades tightened, and the grinds corrected. They are not perfect, but they are about as good as they have ever been for Case.

His comments on the knives made since 2007 are consistent with my experience. All of my Case knives have been purchased since 2007.

I haven't noticed any overall change in quality from ~2000 through today. The jagged edges started in the mid-2000s and haven't let up. Blade play has always been hit-or-miss, and as Mike Latham points out, some patterns are more vulnerable than others.

As far as refuting anything that Mike says, the number of knives I've personally inspected, purchased, or rejected is statistically insignificant compared to the number that he's seen. :)

This is the only knife I have ever owned that I would consider perfect in every aspect. It's been in the pocket for four years.

Good knives with a (generally) good fit and finish. Just don't expect it to be sharp from the factory. :D

This. My trapper came with dull, chipped edges. An hour or sharpening later and the knife was "better than new". Case's CV steel will hold an edge quite well, and mine has survived several hours of carving.

I wonder how many people buy a new case, don't sharpen it, and think it's sharp

Hi Fellas!

This knife was bought by my father back in 2004, when I was 14.
Is it an original Case knife or a fake?
Thanks for the replies.
