I'm interested in the Case large stockman. I'm looking at the 4.25" model in Amber Bone and CV steel. How many backsprings are in this knife, 2 or 3 ? Any input on this knife would be usefull. Thanks for your help

Mine is a 2 spring, I would assume they all are since mine is less than a year old. It's a tad large in the pocket, but I like it.

Here it is with a few others for size comparison.

there is 2 springs on mine also. it's a good sized knife especially if you have big hands. when i carry mine i use the sheepsfoot blade for general cutting and the larger clip for food.

It's OK, but only OK. There are better options in the 4 1/" range - Queen, Northwoods, Moore Maker, Eye, Bulldog to mention a few

I hope they haven't gone to three springs on the new 75 patterns like they did with the 47's.

I have a couple (80's and 90's versions) and I like 'em. If you like a big stockman it's a good one.

As mentioned by Noddy, the Eye Brand, Moore Maker and Queen are also excellent alternatives. (I like 'em all. What can I say? :o)

Mine is from 2006 and it's still a 2 spring.

Great pocketknife, the 4 1/4" stockman pattern is a great "do it all" knife!

The Queen #49 (their version of the 4 1/4" stockman) in Amber Carved Stag Bone and D2 steel, is just about the cream of the Cattleking crop!

I've never seen a '75 pattern Case stockman with 3 springs. Pretty darn sure they're all 2 springs, and that suits me fine. The Case '75 pattern is one of my favorites, a solid workhorse of a knife.

I've got 2 (both SS) and like them.

Can't help but mention my Buck 307...a little smaller than the large Cases, but a well made knife.

I have a 307 Buck but I put it in the safe since they do not produce it anymore. I like that size and style of knife and looking for a replacement.

Seeing some common preferences here... ;)

Here are a few of my favorites, left to right:

Queen #49 'Cattle King'
Eye Brand 425DS
Buck 307
Case 5375 SS (1997)
Case 10375 SS (2004) in orange G-10

Okay, let's really drive him nuts...

...this big Moore Maker (4 3/8" closed) is a handful if you can deal with a round bolstered stockman and the large Eye Brand in stag is a looker as well:

...And a Case (6375) from 1981:

Here's one you don't see every day. Camillus Sword Brand with slide lock for main blade.

Its older brother has seen a little more use.

The whole 4 1/4" family.

You won't go wrong in getting the big Case 6375 in amber bone. It is a great "workhorse" of a knife, and will be a good work and field knife for you. I've had one for several years, and it's a good one! They all do have 2 backsprings.

man i love the stag on that!

I've got one of the Amber Bone CVs. F&F are great, but I wish I could like it a bit more...to me, the springs are mushy. I much prefer my Queen ACSB Cattle King.

Damnit, Elliot....

If I could, I would ding you for posting knife porn on the forum.

Honestly, no kidding at all now.... that has to be one of the finest examples of a stockman I have ever seen. Period. I have a few stockman patterned knives now, and have had even more over the years. But I have NEVER seen a clip, a wharnie and a long punch on the same knife. Much less one with ram's horn. And to finish it off in my favorite knife steel, D2.... all I can say is WOW.

You know, sometimes a knife just hits the sweet spot. To me, that is absolute knife perfection. Thanks for posting those great pics.

Robert

(I can't ding you, right? :D )

awesome thread guys
I have a large walnut bone and script shiled coming next week or so, will post infos and pics as it arrives

I see some great examples in the posts above, the queen #49 looks amazing as do the moore and Eye, is the buck out of production? any infos on that one? (made by buck or camillus, steel?)
@yablanowitz: is the 3rd a 47? just for comparison as it's the biggest I have currently (non gec), and the last 2? cannot recognize them (looks like the last is a 032?)

thanks in advance
Maxx

That Eye brand and RAT is really nice! I dont have any stockman at this point but this thread certainly gives some good options for a big EDC piece.

Great images and input guys. :)
