Case large stockman too big?

I own a Case medium stockman CV (chestnut bone). But I think it´s a little bit to small for my hands. The Trapper CV (darkred bone) is the ideal size for my hands. So the Large stockman would have been a better knife for me. But I like the the medium stockman as well.

Kind regards...

Although I love the Stockman pattern like few others, this is just what I discovered early on.. So when my uncle introduced me to the 64047P I knew I was in possession of the ideal package for me.

I am always on the lookout for these on the secondary market since they have now been long discontinued and recently picked up another that I was fortunate to get for a very nominal trade..

.. These four blades operate on only two back-springs making the overall profile extremely slim, the handle is equipped with an Easy Open center and probably the best feature of all is the steel is Hi-Carbon and is the finer forerunner to the current CV blade steel now available from Case. :)

I got an amber bone Case 6375 CV for Christmas this past year. I've had it in my pocket every day since then. I'm not a big guy, and don't feel the knife is too big for pocket carry. I really like the pattern, and the size. It fits my hands well. And, the blades seem to be just the right size for all jobs big and small. The Case #54 trappers were my EDC knives for a long time. But, since Christmas the #75 stockman has taken their place. I still may have a trapper in one of my pockets. Usually, it will be my new stag CV trapper. But, that stockman is always in my right front pocket.

The large stockman is a great sized knife but does sometimes feel like it's perhaps 1/4" too long for comfortable pocket carry. The sheepsfoot blade gets the most use on mine.

I carry my Amber Bone Large CV Stockman pretty much everyday.

The knife just works for me. I have large hands and am a pretty tall guy.

I dont think its too much for pocket carry. I carry it in my right front pocket and my pant of choice is usually Ben Davis pants (whatever cut the normal blend of materials is).

Sometimes I wear those new Carhartt "twill" work pants, but I am not a fan of slant pockets.

Its kind of annoying when the knife sometimes turns all the way horizontal in the pocket, but its just a matter of reaching in a re-situating the knife.

It might be a bit more comfortable to carry a Medium Stockman because it will sit well all the way in the bottom of the pocket, but what can I say, the Large pattern works really well.

I tend to go the way of the smaller knife myself. I think the 62032 Texas jack is just right and it doesn't have the high sheepsfoot that keeps turning me off of the stockman pattern. I find I much prefer jack knife configurations. I have a 6347 stockman, but it is too big for me and I think I may try the companion to the Texas jack, the 63032 for size.

The GEC (or Northfield or Tidioute) Cuban stockman is 4-1/8" closed and something I carry pretty regularly. It is not a serpentine, but an equal end frame, and so many would consider it a cattle knife rather than a stockman, but it does have the clip master instead of the spear. It is what GEC calls a muskrat clip, rather like Case's California clip, which allows the nick on the sheepfoot to be on the same side (mark side) and also allows the sheepfoot to ride lower in the frame, both big pluses in my mind.

To my thinking (and pockets!) this is the largest knife I can carry without a holster on the belt. Useful blade selection, the absence of half-stops, quality materials with excellent steel (either 1095 or 440C) all help make this a great, large stockman.

As Willgoy says "An old thread yes, but a useful one"

Since my post, I have been using my Queen Cattle King in semi farm situations.
And using it on day hikes.
It sits on my belt in a pouch, and I could not imagine having it in a pocket even a cargo pocket, way too heavy.

To answer Rescue Riley's question, I would compare it more favourably to the large SAK you carry, it is stouter with much better choice of blades in a much better steel.
Unless you need the 'extra' tools of the SAK, I see the large stockman being a much better outdoor knife.

I use to think so until about 7 years ago I got a 4 1/4" Marbles and at first I though it was too much but the more I carried and used it, the more I realized I'm fine with this size! This is still the only one I have but if another one came alone I really liked I would get another one in a heart beat.

I have had my case large stockman a couple of months now and love it. I have larger hands and it fits. Most of the time i carry mine in a belt sheath made for my trapper, the stockman fits better than the trapper. Sometimes it goes in the pocket and I have no problems with it.

I've got 2xl+ sized hands but 3 and 5/8ths seems to be my sweet spot. I have a 4 1/2" back pocket that I do back pocket though and love it to death. I also usually have a Buck 110 in a belt sheath although it doesn't always get used unless I need the larger blade. I've been packing around a 4 and 5/8ths sodbuster too. Great in the cargo pocket, not so much in the front pants pocket although I've thought about having my seamstress alter the pockets of my pants to have a place to slip the sodbuster in so it is verticle and carried on the side near the side seams.

I've done it myself. It's easier than trying to explain it to the wife.

when i carry mine i use the sheepfoot for everyday tasks, and the main clip blade for food.

I love the stockman pattern, my favorite. My biggest is 4 in. but I'd like to get one even bigger 4 1/2- 5 in. I too use the sheepsfoot blade the most and asve the main blade for food use. I also like the spey blade for the garden.

To resurrect an old thread I'm wondering what is the size of the sheep foot blade on the Case large stockman???

Right now I'm using a razor blade knife and a set of hoof trimmers to trim my goats hooves. The razor blade knife is a bit too short.

A larger size knife body is not a big deal to me because with an animal squirming while you are holding one foot, bent over and cutting with the knife in the other hand more to hold onto is better in case, as is the the case often they kick your cutting hand.

Anyway I was wondering if anybody had a length on the sheep foot blade, if too long might get a smaller model even though having a larger handle is definately a plus for what I'm thinking of using it for.

The Sheepfoot blade on my 6375 large Stockman:

Overall length from end of the bolster to tip of the blade = 2.25"
The actual Cutting edge = 1.75"

Matches my 6375 CV's sheepfoot exactly.

The 'bonus' on this blade is, it's also VERY THIN, to well behind the edge. Might be the thinnest blade I've got; I love how it slices.

O w/E,

Oh yes I use my Sheepfoot more than any other blade by far. The main Clip is for food. The Sheepfoot is my utility blade. The Spey is for scraping or other odd cutting where a stubby blade is in order.
