As mentioned in a topic about a dealer, Case is making a 3 1/2" mini trapper with a screwdriver / bottle opener. I found a photo and thought it would be a good topic for discussion. The retail will be a little over $40 plus shipping (about half the cost of GEC's beer scout) for the yellow delrin. Patriot Kirinite is slightly more expensive than the yellow. Don't know if there will be others.

I had the Case mini trapper with clip and Wharncliffe blades and it's an excellent knife.

Case has a long history and this new mini trapper has some resemblance to a large trapper from ages ago. At the Case and Zippo museum there's an example of an old Case large trapper with a screwdriver and can opener. The can opener is closed in the photo. It's on the end opposite of the blade.

I dare say it'll sell well

My experience with Case' Mini-Trapper has been limited to one and that one is very well done with no issues. I think Case is on to something and has chosen the correct platform on which to bring it out. There is now a real possibility that my experiences with Case' Mini-Trappers will double. Thanks for pointing this one out Jake.

Looks like there will also be one with amber bone. I'll add a photo when photobucket stops acting up. I had to install an ad blocker to make photobucket somewhat usable since the ads are freezing my computer. The ad blocker shows that it blocked 86 ads on one page--it's ridiculous!

Excellent! I see that case is using the muskrat clip point blade with this, so the blade should sit within the blade well low enough that your hand isn't squeezing the edge into the backspring -- great design! Somebody at case may be paying attention to some GEC cap-lifter criticism posted here.

That's pretty cool. I did a double take when I originally saw it. Wouldn't be bad with the wharncliff blade they use on some of the mini trappers...

I saw these in a dealer email and thought it seemed like an odd pattern to put a cap lifter on. I don't know, just looks kinda goofy to me. I'd be curious to see some actual photos of them once someone gets one in hand; tough to make a full assessment from the stock photos. (Also wish they offered them in CV.)

That's what I find interesting, Case is clearly watching GEC and taking note of what has been selling well.

I agree with Barrett that Case's version looks kinda goofy but I'm sure it will sell well and I'm also fairly sure I'll have to give one a try.

Mini trappers don't have a long history... maybe the 1970s. "Accessories" like cap lifters were uncommon on trappers by that time. The old large trappers with screwdrivers and can openers are pretty rare. But it's definitely traditional. To me, it is the most obvious choice from Case. They already made a mini trapper with a golf tool. They just swapped out the golf tool for a cap lifter.

The pattern that I'd like the most is an equal end with a single spring. It was considered for the upcoming forum knife but a harness jack was chosen instead.

Im most likely going to buy an amber bone specimen when theyre available. I do love the caplifter/screwdriver arrangement on the GEC's, but the sheepsfoot blades dont do it for me.
