Case Mini Trapper with Bottle Opener / Screwdriver ("Beer Trap"!!!)

My "traplifter" came! Case did a splendid job on this pattern. I've never owned a Mini Trapper before, but it's a perfect size for a four-finger grip, the Turkish clip looks like a useful blade profile, and the caplifter rides in the frame at a good height -- not so high as to dig into my palm, not so low as to be hard to access.

I'm thrilled to finally own a non-SAK traditional with a single blade and a caplifter, something I'd more or less given up on hoping to find. I was too sleepy for a beer last night, but its time will come! :D

I sharpened my beer trap for the first time today. I use a cheap steel I bought from the household section at the big box. That Case blade grabbed an edge that's better than when I took it out of the box. I was very surprised at how well it sharpened up to a razor sharp edge. Went to cut open a jerky package and barely swiped my finger and got a nick, didn't bleed but I feel it. Anyway one thing about getting this little trapper is I learned that Case blades aren't that bad. I ordered a left handed trapper and a smooth black mini copper lock. I guess I'm a Case fan now. By the way, you all suck. I wouldn't be blowing all that money on knives if it weren't for you.

One more thing. On my Vic, I was able to maintain the edge on the lip of my coffee cup. Didn't do anything for the case, I was thinking the blade might be junk but decided to give the steel a try. The blade got awesomely sharp. Is this a sign the Case blade steel is better than Victorinox?

Case and SAK are roughly equivalent in performance. Similar alloys, similar hardness.

Side comment,
You can get any blade sharp. What differentiates the steel is how long it stays sharp in use.

If I didn't already have 2 or 3 SAKs and 3 GECs with openers then I'd certainly go for one of these, looks a very nicely proportioned knife, right size, good finish and reasonable price. Perhaps they'll offer it with Wharncliffe master as well....?:D

I find that little California clip is extraordinarily versatile. It's the same length as the 93mm SAK but very skinny. It great at separating stuck together paper and opening mail and numerous small tasks. You should consider getting it just to try out, you probably wouldn't have to much trouble selling it or as cheap as it is you could gift it if you aren't as impressed as I've been.

Went with cherry red dye on mine. I'm quite happy with the look of it afterwards but think I'll stick to carrying a pioneer or farmer most of the time.

Very nice, jiallen7575! I carry mine a bit more than I thought I would. Maybe modding it makes me grab it a bit more often.

I have added it to the choices I keep on the dresser but I use the awl on the victorinox so often I feel unprepared without one.

Looks good. Probably should have had the one from my giveaway sent to me first instead of directly to the winner so that I would have a chance to CE and CF the knife. ;)

Love the Pioneer/Soldier. Rarely need the saw on the Farmer. But I almost never need an awl. Everyone's different. Use every other tool on the Pioneer/Soldier though. I'd love for the awl to be swapped out for the sheepfoot like on the Pioneer Apprentice.

My regular users and beaters are in a tin. Just reach in and grab one. I probably have more Swiss army knives than necessary. :o

That Cherry Red looks great. I just picked one up last night at my local case dealer and am sorely tempted by that color mod.
