Case Quality Issues

before this thread completely goes to hell...

We seem to have that definition nailed down. Fortunately this thread hasn't gone to hell and I'm very confident it won't.
You guys in traditional seem a tad more capable of a temperant debate and discussion. The thread is 5pages long and very civil AND informative. If we were discussing "tacticals" we already be down to insults and no infomation by now. Not sute what it is aboiut the tactical area that gets the blood boiling....maybe its a macho thing, or the cost of the items being discussed (no one wants to admit their $200+ item is less that wonderful).

All this talk of mail backlogs and weeks of waiting is alarming me badly. I've never been satisfied with my CASE/Bose Norfolk but now I can't see the point of sending it in if this is the state of affairs. It might never return......

The irony is, it's the only CASE knife I've been disatisfied with and it cost the most! The other 25 or so are well up to snuff.

There's no guarantee you'll ever get it back, it can even get lost in the mail after the repair is complete and they are sending it back to you. I've got to do the same with a Buck 307. I have to accept the fact that I may have to simply replace it at my expense if it doesn't make it back to me. Either that or keep it here the way it is...

Perhaps. Certainly one man's opinion. But a quick internet search reveals the meaning to be more of one that is "an intense fan", a "devotee", an "aficionado", or an "individual intensely devoted individual to a brand, product, etc.". Unless taken to an unusual extreme, I don't know that being a fanboy is a bad thing.

Very true.
However (you knew there would be an however), while the term fan is certainly not pejorative, when combined with "boy" it takes on a slightly different tone.
I'm not sure about its general usage in other areas, but in the knife area, it's usage does not normally carry a positive connotation.

Got it. I should have said that in this thread (and IMO around BF in general) it is being used as a pejorative.

Seems for some though, their mileage may indeed vary if they took that as a slap of some sort. Sometimes folks think that any remark they don't like concerning a possession of theirs, their favorite team, a truck brand, or any of the other things they follow is a personal affront. Certainly, if needed all of us here can conjure up a satisfactory insult without using cloying innuendo to convey it; I wouldn't read anything into a statement of mine that wasn't there.

On reflection, I certainly fit my personal definition of a CASE fanboy back in the late 60s through early 80s. I only bought a couple of other brands at that time (exactly, a Buck 119 around 1971, and a Boker stockman around 1973), and didn't look anywhere else, and didn't care. All other purchases were CASE. Loved my CASEs. Fanboyism? You bet. I won't apologize.

Had they held their old standard, I probably would be one today.

As I said earlier, YMMV.

no offense taken but lets face it use of the term is usually a pejorative, whether or not you intended it to be. Besides i havent seen "fanboys" belittling anybody on this thread or in this forum, maybe youve encountered it elsewhere but i havent seen it here. Just looking to clarify whether not having a problem and posting in this thread constitutes "fanboy"... i might take offense to that seeing that by the widely accepted definition i would be lost in the brand and unable to see things clearly...
Now I'm a fan of the ones i have would i look at a sorry example and tell ya it's great or a user, no way. Ive told people with seemingly imperceivable (to me) flaws to send them back cause it aint worth it if ya aint happy with it, each guy on here has their own level of whats acceptable, whats flawless, whats proper business methods, etc.
it's all subjective
