Case quality

You have to take a Case for what it is. It's not a custom knife. It's the equivalent of a Kershaw and mass produced Kershaws can have slight problems as well. My Case has a tiny gap but the walk/talk and pull is better than any other slipjoint I have. Better than my GECs even.

I started o put this in a new thread but decided to just go with this one. A few years ago Case was the go to knife in tradirionals if you were a serious knife person you bought Case. Then GEC came along making a really good knife and everybody started getting on the bandwagon and I totally understand because the do make a fine knife. That said seems folks have gone from being proud to have a Case in their pocket to being almost ashamed of it. It almost seems that those that still buy and own a Case feel they have to make an excuse for doing so. These days the love for Case has gone and folks seem to feel that if you don't own and buy almost exclusively GEC then you must not be very serious about this hobby. I myself still love a Case knife and have many more than any other brand I own. I have nothing bad to say about GEC as the are great well made knives that anyone should be proud to own but I think Case is also. They are still USA made and not given in to the pressure of overseas manufacture, weathered the storms that took down so many of our USA companies like Schrade and most recently Canal Street and give us a tremendous amount of different patterns that you can readily find and purchase while keeping the price point affordable. Is there anyone else like myself that still love Case knives and are proud to own and carry them. Here is a picture of ten of mine that are my favorites. I think they are beautiful and am proud to own and carry these great USA made knives.

I'm proud to own and carry Case knives. I'd purchase every pattern they make if they'd make more of them with liner locks.
If they just made a 2-blade blue bone trapper with a liner lock.:(

I, too, still like Case knives, and find their quality to be at or above price point. I have examples from each of the last four decades, and don't see any real difference in the quality of any of them: perfectly acceptable both visually and mechanically. I was brought up under the axiom, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all!" But really, I don't have anything bad to say about Case quality, with the possible exception of their dye process on a very few knives. Case is just fine by me, especially at half the price of a GEC.

Case makes a good knife. Sometimes their QC is not quite as good as GEC, but they cost a good bit less. I find gaps in Case knives and I find gaps in GEC. Not a big deal as they aren't custom knives.

I have more Case knives than any other, most are newer, and I'm pretty happy with them for the most part. The only sore spot for me is the dark red bone CV line. They should be able to get that better. They get the pocket worn series old red bone pretty good, but not the CV.

Hear, hear, Randy! Here's most of mine that I'm proud to own:

The new bone stag knives in CV look to be quite nice.

MT,
The Bone Stag is VERY nice. I've owned the Sway Back version since July and couldn't be happier with it.
The fit, finish, blade centering and scale coloration are superb on this knife and it's now one of my favorite
to carry.

I haven't owned many Case knives but I do have a yellow handled delrin peanut I've had for a couple years that I love. The qc on it is perfect. The yellow trapper I recently purchased which is why I made this thread had very noticeable gaps. I honestly don't mind minor gaps but if I can see them without even holding it to light then it kinda bothers me. The new trapper I just got is perfect though. I can definitely see myself purchasing more Case's in the future. Can't beat them for the price.

Also a couple things I think Case does better than GEC are their perfect cover to bolster transitions and their blade pulls which are so smooth with the perfect amount of resistance and snap.

Great post, Randy. I don't have too many Case knives, but the ones I have are great knives. I admit that when I first started collecting pocketknives I bought into the hype here and thought that GEC was the only way to go. After going to a couple of knife shows and seeing what else was out there I realized that GEC makes a great knife, but so does Case, Queen, Bear and Sons, Buck, and several others. The more manufacturers we have the better it is for all of us. Thank you for standing up and advocating for Case. I'd sure hate to see them turn into the next Schrade or Camillus.

Yes I own a number of both Case and GEC knives. I like them both very well. With a very few limited exceptions my Case knives are well-constructed. The few exceptions are very minor issues which do not adversely affect the performance of the knife. Except for collector type knives at least Case produces sufficient quantities for the average guy to pick up the knife he or she wants rather than having to jockey to obtain one or buy one on the secondary market.

I haven't bought into the GEC hype yet, but I was just thinking earlier today that this entire "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" sub-forum should be renamed "Fans of GEC Knives" forum.
