Case Sod Buster.. wish I would have checked it out sooner

Leather for the soddie. At 20 bucks, you'll be hard pressed to find a better product.

As an aside, The pic depicts the great difference between an amateur and a professional. I made the one on left out of a seatbelt 25-30 years ago. I just received the two sheaths on right last week.

That seatbelt sheath looks great. 25 years and the stitches aren't coming loose means a good job in my book. I've seen seatbelts used as tool belts because of their durability, adjustability, and they do look a bit cooler IMO, but I never thought about using one as a sheath. I guess I should go to the junkyard and find one now.

Good job,
Connor

Nice!
I rec an AG Russell Cowboy and a Bucklite also.

The Bucklite with the hard plastic handles is gone. History.

The replacement, the Bucklite Max is junk, imo. Bendy plastic. Neither of mine lasted a year and really didn't get used *that* hard.

The Ecolite 110 and 112 are closer to a lockback sodbuster, if you can accept a clip point. Partial metal bolsters help, but by most accounts, Buck continues to struggle with consistency issues with respect to vertical play. I can't in good conscience recommend to people based on my experience.

It's a slipjoint, I'm sure, though I don't have one. Probably time I got one.

Yes, slipjoint. Invented in Germany as a folding knife for butchers, called the Schlachtmesser zum Zulegen (folding butcher's knife). Came over to the USA probably turn of century roundabouts. Quickly became a simple, solid working knife. Case called it the "sodbuster," and it stuck. It tends to have a pretty stiff pull, from nice and firm to nail-breaking. Feels very secure in use; it will not close on your fingers easily unless you want it to. The handle is very comfortable. I carry one as my EDC. Keep the blade under 3" and you're legal practically everywhere--or at least unlikely to arouse suspicion. That's partly why I carry it since I travel so much for work.

I just bought a case sodbuster jr, yellow with cv today. it was the display at a big box store, they did not have the box, so they gave me 10% off. cool, I thought. it seems like it would be a great knife, except I noticed after I cut 2 potatoes that the blade had rather a large amount of lateral play. since I did not get the box, I probably cant return it. any suggestions? I am considering squeezing it tight in my vice gently, but I expect somebody out there has had a similar experience and can advise me.

Try squeezing, then peening the pivot pin. You will have some dings on your knife, but you may be able to clean it up if you work carefully. It might take a few tries before you get things tight for a while, so I wouldn't worry about cleaning it up after the first try. I have Case Sodbuster and I intend to give it away. Nice knife, but I really cant like the slippery handle. Almost had an accident with it. I have sanded the handle to make it less slippery.

After seeing the Queen in micarta I had to get one. I love it! My brother and his band came stooped over at my house when they were on tour (buncha Chicago city slickers) and were looking at my knife collection. This was the one knife they all were WOWed by. It was kinda surprising because I have alot of knives Benchmades, random automatics, all kinds of traditionals, Spyderco, Boker, about 20 Barlows, you name it, but they were oohing and aahhhing over the micarta Queen 70. I think I might have to get him one for Christmas.

These are my two - infact almost half my knife collection

D2 Queen Jr with cocobolo scales

New case jigged peach seed

you need good reason for a fixed blade or a lock knife over here but these two fit the EDC laws perfectly and are realy all I need day to day

I'd own more but I keep giving them away to friends and famil etc. - someone has to spread the Buster love

The extra length of the GEC Bullnose allows the attachment of a lanyard or a bail.

That said and shown - It's still hard to beat the Case Sod Buster Jr.

I was not able to do it with the vise, but my tack hammer did the trick. the marks are minimal, and cleaned up well with 2000 grit. nice and stable now :) thanks for the suggestion.

Give me the Queen green Micarta or better the Case peach seed jigged bone SENIOR versions.... mmmmh, all what I like in a knife. Still in love with my Navy Blue Sodbuster (senior, of course). One of the best knives ever made, period.

I love my blue full size Case Sodbuster.
On a related note: Is yellow the only color available for the full size CV Sodbuster now?

I've fondled a couple of the Case SB Jr's, and the pull was just a bit much for my taste. The Puma LongHorn was MUCH nicer in this regard. How does the Queen rate in the pull dept? Half-stop or not?

Here are some comparison shots.
Light yellow Case. Darker yellow and black Queen. Red Bulldog.
