Case Stockman-Large or Medium

Like some others have said, I find the Medium Stockman a great pocket knife, but the Large Stockman rides better in a belt sheath/pouch.

Thanks for puttin that one up Anthony. Its been awhile since I've seen it, but it always puts a smile on my face, and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy :D

I vote Black G10.

Of course, Case has some very nice bone handles to offer but black is a color that almost anyone would like. Case does a very nice job with thier Black G10 too.

I have a Trapper and a Peanut in Black G10 but no photo of the Trapper.

Thought I would throw in this pic just for the heck of it:

That's nice. I really like the G-10 too. I have an orange one.

G-10 works well on the slimline Trapper I have.

Thank you Anthony for posting that pic, amazing to get all that lot on a two spring frame, real art! The bone isn't too bad either....Will have to keep my weather eye open for one of those, but they must be scarce.

WO, G.. Orange g-10 on a traditional Stockman?.. Are you sure?!.. :p

.. Just josh'n.. :D .. To each his own. That is what makes this sub-forum so cool! But, before you pull the hammer back and slide your finger upside the trigger, consider a 6.5 scaled Case #6318. She is a sweet 3 blade pocket knife in your desired size and is still quite economical and very traditional looking..

The bone isn't to bad ? :eek::eek::eek::eek:

:D Just kidding. I like any knife that has nice old red bone on it.

That is a hard pattern to come by. Its one that has eluded me, but I think I may have to get a little more serious about finding one

I have both the large and medium Case Stockman. The large does not fit in my coin/watch pocket of my jeans. The medium is just right.

Anthony, thanks for posting those photos of the 640047P. It looks familiar now that you've put it up (again?). Maybe you've posted it before and I just forgot what it looked like. Anyway, thanks for putting it (back?) up. And I like that 6.5 bonestag a lot.

Mike, you and I are game birds of a feather!. :D Thank the good Lord for Red Bone heads like us!

They are scarce and a little pricey depending on the year, condition and handle material.. But man, they are a Superior design as traditional Stock slippys go!

Those are some sweet looking scales indeed.

Bone Stag?

Yes Sir, 6.5 = Bone-Stag! Sharp eye my blade brother! ;)

My European irony&understatement at work:D Can't say which is better that red or green as they are both oustanding!

CASE did a foolish thing when they discontinued the Bonestag 6.5 handles, it was one of their best scales of late in my view.Got the same Medium Stockman in it and it gets better with age, wish I did:eek:

Absolutely :D. I'm surprised there isn't more love for the old red bones. It always makes my day to see a nice old one posted up

No worries. I was just giving you a bad time :D As you mentioned, the old green bone is terrific too. Those are even harder to come by and are priced accordingly

I bought a large and never use/carry it. Just too big for my liking. I'm more likely to carry a small fixed blade, or Hinderer XM-24 for that weight.

How does the Medium Case Stockman compare to the Buck 303 as far as size goes? I'm putting a medium stockman on my Amazon wishlist, but I really have nothing to put the size into perspective. I get the feeling they are about the same, but with folks talking about how small the medium is, and how big the large is, I'm really unsure.

med stockmans are usually 3-5/8" the 303 is 3-1/4. the size difference is roughly a bolster length if you had them next to each other. that might help you visualize it better.

i vote g-10 for the scales unless you know what your friends favorite color is.

Thanks. This really helps.
