Case Stockman-Large or Medium

Medium it is. Now I have to decide whether to go with G-10 or Bone.

i have to agree. the medium case model 6318 three blade is my choice too. at 3 3/8 inches this is the all around best knife to edc if i get asked. take a look at the 6318 in cv steel and yellow handles. its the least expensive one and the steel really holds and takes a edge and there is something particularly striking about those smooth yellow derlin scales and its hard to lose in the field.

How does the Medium Case Stockman compare to the Buck 303 as far as size goes? I'm putting a medium stockman on my Amazon wishlist, but I really have nothing to put the size into perspective. I get the feeling they are about the same, but with folks talking about how small the medium is, and how big the large is, I'm really unsure.

Sorry about the crappy photography. One of these days I've got to build a lightbox.

Most people seem to think the 47 pattern is large (it's about the same size as the 8OT Schrade), and only freaks like me are comfortable carrying the 75 pattern in a pocket. I think the 18 pattern would be best for someone who isn't a dedicated knife nut.

This is great to see all these side by side. Would it be possible for you to also show the bottom lineup together either from the backspring side or the closed blade side? It would be useful to see the thickness differences also as they scale up.

Thanks! That makes a great reference. The difference in thickness between the 6318 and 6347 is less than I was expecting. The 6375 though is definitely a hoss.

This has probably been said already, but Case has "mediums" from something like 3.25" to 3.875". I'd get the xx47, which is most people's full-size, yet unusually slim.

A medium stockman makes a great gift. If they are new to traditional knives I would buy them bone. G10 or synthetic covers are great don’t get me wrong, and perhaps better for someone new to pocket knives as they are so durable - but a traditional knife as a gift I myself would go with traditional cover materials. Bone or stag maybe?
Just my opinion. Very thoughtful gift btw.
