I am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on one. I know it is a smidge on the short side. But I like the sodbuster jr. and peanut.
For some strange reason, I find myself looking at it every time I pick up the catalog.
Those of you that have it, please chime in on both pros and cons. Was it worth it for you, that you did get it?

Thanks for the insight.

I think you'll love it. Case really seems to put extra care into all the Swaybacks I have seen. It's a smaller knife, but very capable of real work.

I haven't found a downside to it as an EDC. I really like the one I have; I think it's the best knife I've ever bought for the money and a great value even if you think the pricing is a little high. You'll change your mind on that once you get it.

Yes, its worth every penny. I waited over 6 months before pulling trigger. Its really great :)
p.s. Congrats on big 500 Ed!

I have been carrying mine for a couple of years +- at this point. It is the finest Case production knife I have seen in recent years if not from any of the main traditional knife companies in recent years. I have not run into a down side, but I am used to using and carrying smaller patterns so my thought is that a down side would be only if you prefer large folders.

I love the swayback. Its the nicest production knife I've ever owned. I use it daily and its hold a great edge. Plus I keep it in my watch pocket. That way i can carry another one in my pants pocket.

The swayback's I've seen have been some of the most awesome finished knives I've seen from Case. I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on one myself, if I can get CV.

Carl.

No down side that I can find - Case just nailed this pattern.

I've read that some consider it to be a hair too small, but I find it more comfortable to use than larger swaybacks. The size suits the pattern to a tee, IMO.

The size is a good point, Rick. Is there a 'standard' size for a sway back?

Most of the old swayback or warnie pocket knives I see in posts from smiling- knife and Wellington from Sheffield's heyday, seem to be small to medium pocket knife size. It sooo looks like something that would be in the vest pocket of an English gentleman. I see a lot of that style of knife in those old IXL catalogue reprints. It does not seem to ever have been a large knife.

That chestnut bone CV is really starting to get to me. I bet a bevel on the blades would really set that thing off.
Going to go grab a brat at october fest down the road and think this thru...now who does good blade work...

Stop waiting....get one...or three. :D

98, that middle one's scales are perfect. Where did you get the bevels done at?
Thanks you for the pics.

duckman, we posted at the same time. Did you do the tune yourself?

Mine was "tuned up" by a friend and maker here on the forums. He thinned out both blades....beefed up the swedges and etched them deliciously dark. :)

Carl, you do not need to look for a CV swayback. I have one with your name on it......a gift as thanks for your contributions here. Send me your address and I'll get it headed your way.

What everybody else did. Do it!

morrowj is Palpatine to jacknife's Anakin. Except the Swaybacks are the good guys. :)

Hey, Carl. Yep, the older swaybacks in my experience have all been roughly the same size as the case CV and this Ulster, but I've owned a couple of Bose-inspired custom versions in the 3-5/8" to 3-3/4" range that I didn't find as comfortable in the hand as the little guys. The odd handle shape seems specifically suited to edge-in pull cuts in the larger sizes, whereas the small ones seem amenable to a wider range of uses. YMMV, of course.
