Just came this morning, first thought is "I wish I had kept the earlier Jack", the extra blade gave just enough extra width to feel solid in the hand, what I think this will do is replace my Peanut in the watch pocket as it is big enough to not be as fiddly in hand.

I tend to agree, this is one pattern that's much better as a 2 blade Jack rather than a single. The GEC 14 is the same as well. Nice new knife mind:thumbsup:

I have mixed opinions about the gent vs the jack. One one hand, I like the thinness of the gent, but the jack feels better in the hand with the added thickness. The jack also feels better holding it because of the weight. However, I don't like the weight of the jack in the pocket. It's not particularly heavy, mind you, it's just "dense", if you know what I mean. That makes it feel more like a lead sinker in the pocket, which swings around and bangs into my leg (among other "things"), where a larger knife with the same weight would be more evenly distributed and less like a pendulum.

I find it kinda silly that they're not still offering (or re-offering) the 2 blade CV SBJ. One look at eBay auctions and they'd see that it's in demand and would sell.

I agree, and why they aren't making Barlows, either? Case is still in business, so I guess they know their market, but I don't understand it.

I completely agree with you Will , if Case still offered the 2 blade Jack I would have been all over that, most likely buying two. I have two GEC #15s and if they were made without a half stop I would be even happier.

I like the thinness and lightness of the gent and find the single blade to be quite adequate for most of my daily needs. The first time I saw a picture of the gent I just had to have one, and was sure that I would like it more than the jack. (Mine is a jigged burnt amber bone in SS.) Well, then I found a brand new, 2009 jigged chestnut bone CV swayback jack at a hardware store and couldn't resist that one either. The jack isn't as heavy, thick, or bulky as I expected and like carrying it too. If I had to give up one of them I don't know which I'd choose as they are both great knives.

So to the OP, yes, you should have kept the jack and then gotten the gent as well!

So the gent is back in production but not the jack?

It looks that way and it also appears that dealers are now calling the single blade a Jack instead of a Gent.

In some cases it is simply called a Sway Back.

Well, I did a weird thing today. As I said above, I like the jack and gent both and have one of each. Or had one of each. I found the jack (a 2009) recently in a hardware store. Well, last week I was shopping in a different hardware store and noticed they also had a 2009 jigged chestnut bone CV swayback jack in stock. I sure don't neeeeed it, but today I went back and bought it anyway. I've lubed the pivots and coated the blades with mineral oil and put it back in the box for now. I figured it's such a nice pattern but out of production and still extremely popular, so why not? ;) (My wife thinks I'm crazy but otherwise she's OK with it. :)) What's next, another gent? :D

Lucky guy, nice find. Jealous!

Nice score, Ace. I've often bought two of the exact same knife if I really like the first one. Even if it isn't scarce and even if it's exactly the same as the other one.

My "reasoning" is that I want a backup just in case I break or lose the first one. That has never happened but I keep doing it anyway.

Yeah, there are a few knives I'd be tempted to buy a "backup" of, and the SBJ cv is one of them.

Gave my cv Chestnut Jack away to a forum member and my brother got the Bermuda Green stainless Jack so I'm down to the Damascus Gent...mind you, it is Barehead and that's best for both the Gent or the Jack:cool:

Wish I had a hardware shop near to hand with NOS Chestnut Jacks:D:)

Thanks, R rishma , Railsplitter Railsplitter , , r8shell r8shell and Will Power Will Power !
I've been buying different knives because I like the look and style and utility of them and don't think of myself as ever owning "safe queens." But I agree that when you find something special that you really like it's worth having a "backup" (especially when they're not making them anymore). For one thing, I think it encourages being a little less protective of your original, which means that you will use and enjoy it even more!
Barehead -- that's another thing that I thought I wouldn't like about the jack. But I was wrong about that, too. I agree that it looks better that way. (But I still like my gent.)

I was just thinking about going to the Case dealer tomorrow to pick up a one blade. I prefer the thin one. I hope they have a selection so i can pic out the covers i like.

I've seen pictures of a swayback gent in blue bone with threaded bolsters and if I ever come across one in person it will be hard to resist it. :)
