Case told David Yellowhorse he couldn't customize their knives anymore

But they can't even do that.
It doesn't make any sense. They have NO SAY with what happens to them once they leave their factory.

I'm not a lawyer, but they may have a say in how the modified knives are marketed and sold.

Here is the problem: "Yellowhorse Case Products" or "You are viewing a Case Wharncliff Trapper by Brian Yellowhorse."

If someone uses your brand you can do one of three things: 1) give up your property rights to your brand; 2) license the use of your brand (can be for nominal consideration - such as $.01); 3) enforce your property rights.

Anyone can work on your Chevy to customize it, but it cannot be a product line sold to end users as (for example) a "Fire Ball Chevy" unless your want to deal with the legalities.

Pretty much this. Most likely he can still buy Case knives and modify them, he just can't phrase the Case products as above.

Still makes me wonder if there was a falling out or something. For years I can recall seeing Yellowhorse modified Case knives on display/sale next to the Case booth at BLADE.

Halfneck Halfneck
I think you hit the nail on the head. It doesn't make sense that Case would need the extra cash so it probably had to do something business wise like a contract dispute.

Looks like Case and Yellowhorse have some sort of licensing agreement now..

I wonder if David holds the trademark for “Yellowhorse”. Hopefully Case didn’t cut him out and start creating these on their own.

I expect those are a collab with Brian Yellowhorse and the reason they bullied David out of the customized business that he originated.

I was hoping for a happier reason. I don't know much about David or Brian Yellowhorse. Seen their work for many years but don't know much about it. Seems weird to include the son but not the father who started it all.

Are these knives modified by Case according to Yellowhorse design? Or are they modified by Yellowhorse? I didn't see any description at all where I found the photos.

I don't get the Simpsons reference but haven't seen the show in a very long time.

I didn't see a description online. I pulled a catalog out of the recycling and they do call it a "collaboration" with Brian Yellowhorse. It doesn't mention David. I thought Brian and David were father and son. I don't know the business relationship between them.

"The latest collaboration between Brian Yellowhorse and W.R. Case and Sons is quite literally a thing of beauty. A collection of exotic material including Black Quartz, Turquoise and Gold Quartz all accompanied with exclusive Brian Yellowhorse shield. Order yours today as production is limited to 100 pieces in each pattern. "

Case either has to license the use of its brand, stop unlicensed use, or give up its property in that brand. In the latter case, anyone can sell "Case" knives. It's a matter of federal law.

Custom Forged Knives (CFK) claims that both the Yellowhorse guys make custom knives for them.

Pretty harsh statement, not much of a Case fan are ya. Any proof?

Huge Case fan. But it has already been discussed here that Case threatened legal action against David if he continued customizing Case knives and I was relatively sure (confirmed above) that they are now collaborating with Brian with the Yellowhorse name. Not much of a reach to feel these two things are related. They don't go out of their way to specify which Yellowhorse they are collaborating.

But, to answer your question - I don't need any proof to make a supposition; that is why I said "I expect" not "I know". If you wish to offer a different opinion or supposition, feel free.

expect: "used to indicate that one supposes something to be so, but has no firm evidence or knowledge"

As a side note - why don't you stop trolling and trying to turn conversations into your argumentative narrative?

Pretty quick to call people trolls, I've noticed.

No, I have been here a long time and taken part in a lot of conversations. Posts history is easy to examine and trends can be found fairly easily.
Do you have other examples where I have mentioned the word troll about someone else?
I may say something that some folks don't agree with, and that is part of a forum. I have been wrong many times. But I try very hard not to argumentatively question or demand proof of their statements when I don't have any proof to the contrary.

Some folks have a long history of posting contrary or argumentative posts. Mike is not one of them.

But, we should move on, please.

I'm a Case fan. I buy 'em for myself and as gifts. An excellent product that can be readily found at Bass Pro and Cabelas. I'd rather be positive and assume Case did not "bully" anyone. :)

Sorry for my "trolling" and being "contrary" and "argumentative." Thanks for keeping me humble.
