Caswell Morphing Karambit on Kickstarter

Here is the disclaimer. I’m also guessing it’s Fox. If so, the steel will most likely be N690.

Millit knives does AMAZING work that I found evident in the new Hawk MUDD auto. Fit and finish was simply amazing.

Millit is good, but I'm honestly not super impressed that they're going with aluminum on this build. I'm sure they have reasons, but for this price point, I'd really expect it to be titanium.

The price is steep, but I decided to throw down for one. My reasoning for doing so is that I am a collector and it is a first run of something very unique and I like the 3V. 3V is a decent steel. I would have been happier if it were CPM 20CV or M390, but 3V is a decent steel. They may eventually manufacture "standard folders" using this mechanism. It will be interesting to see how the market responds. Will other manufacturers follow down this path?

I think really this only works for karambits because the opening would only be natural in reverse grip.

I saw somewhere that CRKT picked up the design

Source? The Kickstarter says that Fox has a production version coming in early 2019. That would be strange if two separate companies were to get non-exclusive design licenses for production versions.

Hm. I thought the point of a Karambit is fast drawing, like the Emerson wave or even just a fixed blade? But on this the whole knife is concealed in the pocket, imagine trying to whip that thing out while you're being rushed by an assailant. This looks like it's for design enthusiasts or collectors, not hard users or even SD. I imagine grit will collect in all those joints as well

I spoke with Joe and handled a prototype at G9. It is possible to deploy Emerson style with the current setup by having your pocket snag the lever arm when pulling it out. That, or it just takes a little thumb pressure to open it while holding it in a karambit grip.

Joe mentioned he has spoken with several martial artists, including having them handle prototypes, to get feedback. He did design it with self-defense use in mind. I was trying to convince him to send a prototype to Doug Marcaida, for feedback and review :)

CRKT shared the Knifenews video about this on facebook, so I'm guessing that they're making the production version. I figured this would be the case because they have a history of producing weird opening and locking mechanisms. I like CRKT and haven't had a bad experience with them. Sometimes I wish they could use better steel on some of their designs, but I think AUS-8 or 8Cr13MoV is perfectly fine for a karambit.

I like the design, want one, and am sure they will be built extremely well, but I'm gonna pass at $450. The aluminum frame just doesn't do it for me. Will wait and see what the production version looks like and costs.

It’s gotta be CRKT

Yeah, knowing whether It Weel Keel will make a 500% difference in price and popularity.

No, guys. It's Fox out of Italy. CRKT was just sharing the video because it's cool, and they're probably a little jealous somebody else got a new whizbang opening mechanism.

I have seen no where that is has been announced who is doing production but when I saw that someone was first name in my head was CRKT they are junkies for new "tech". Given that they also have shared on social media it just adds to the likelihood that they are the ones to pick this up. If they are it will likely compromise something ie the clip might not be the zero profile clip and the blade steel is likely to go to a chinese steel. I will try to get my hands on the production as I am curious about how it handles but don't have a lot of expectations for the production version.

Source? I am on the KS page Fox isn't mentioned once and the bit about a production only says it has been picked up for a production run but not by who.

Gah, I apparently didn't read, either. I have no idea why I was so sure of that. Correction: It is not known who the manufacturer is.

CRKT always gets amazing designs and manages to turn them into nightmares. Why cant they spend just a little more to up their quality and really take their knives to the next level? It's almost as if it's a bad joke

Boker is a step or two ahead of CRKT, better materials and finish.

Note that I didn't say good materials and finish...
