ccw recommendation for wife

PLEASE have her shoot one first !!!!

I suspect she'll change her mind.

.

Agree.

I think that is a touch too small. Unless she has really small hands and is able to get her pinky fully on the grip it is going to be uncomfortable to shoot.

You can get away with the hanging pinky on something like a glock 26, because it so fat, and easy to hang on too. The Kahrs are thin (which is awesome), but the extra 0.5" you gain in height going from the PM9 to the P9 or CW 9 makes quite a difference.

If you can't find a place to rent them to you, perhaps the store will let her hold it while you slap the muzzle to reasonably recreate muzzle flip/recoil. It's not exact, but at least it will let her see if there are any spots that are prone to rubbing and chafing her hand.

If that's the biggest gun she is willing to go for, than by all means go for it. It is certainly a servicable firearm, in a potent caliber.

You might find it to just might be a tad on the short side grip length wise.

Took your advice and she still wants one. She has small hands, she thought my Glock 27 was way too thick.

On a side note, what would be a good holster for her and where is a good place to buy holsters?

Either get the trigger work done on the Smith or get a PPK.OR if you are really feeling crazy and can find one, get a used Walther P5 or P5 compact:D

She will LOVE the Kahr! I love both of mine.

As for holsters, I use Blade-Tech IWB holsters.

My wife shot a number of autos and revolvers and finally settled on the S&W 638 shrouded hammer and a fanny-pack style concealed carry holster. She loves to shoot it and places fast-fire 8" groups at 15'. She can shoot a 3" group taking her time at the same distance.

We have a market garden and purchased the gun for her for when I'm gone and it's just her and the kids with strangers dropping in throughout the day. We both hope that she never has to "use" it, but it's reassuring that it's there.

A woman shooting a [ETA semi-auto hand-] gun that small will drastically increase the risk of a failure to feed stemming from a weak wrist.

If you are going that small, you are probably better off wtih a snubbie revolver.

You're kinda right back where you started size-wise, and that was the negative about the snubbie.

The "full-size" Kahr P-9 isn't that much bigger than a PM-9, but it's enough bigger to matter.

It's still thinner than a snubby so it'll carryi better and holds more shots. (7+1 compared to 5)

But MAKE SURE SHE CAN OPERATE THE SLIDE on either one. Many women and some guys have trouble racking the slide on the Kahrs.

(Don't worry about dropping the slide using the slide stop. Most people try and do it with an unloaded magazine inserted. Take it out and the slide stop is much easier to work. A loaded magazine would not exert upward pressure on the slide stop like an empty one does.)

IIRC kahr used to make a weaker recoil spring for women ya just couldnt use +P+ or +P ammo, never bothered with one as my 5'2 105 lb wife had nary a problem working the slide, never a problem with limp wristing it either FWIW.

she also could shoot a PM9 a lot better than a colt detective special.

i have a P9 and PM9 (as i'm sure ya all know by now lol) and to me the P9 is a little easier to shoot, ya can get a little better grip, but its hardly a big deal and the PM9 is easier to deal with on a daily basis, of the 2 i am more likely to have the PM9 vs the P9, but both are the bomb as far as a edc pistol, imho, and both are easier to dewal with than a glock 26/27/33, now there is a pistol thats hard to get a good grip on, for me anyway, i have a glock +2 floorplate on both of mine, without it no matter how hard ya hold it it torques after aabout 3 rounds and ya have to readjust your grip, still does it to a lesser degree with the +2 floorplates, but not as much in .357SIG/.40 and hardly at all in 9MM. FWIW a 33 in 357SIG imho is harder to hold onto than a .40, i shoot speer 125 or ranger 125 in mine and its a handfull i'm here to say, not to mention the horrific muzzle blast and how loud it is, my wife hated my 33 lol. when i 1st got it 357SIG was not very common, 1st time i went to the range the owner came down and asked "what the hell are ya shooting, loudest pistol i have heard in a while" lol.

www.comp-tac.com --- The MTAC is a great IWB option and is a nice combination of leather and kydex

If you decide to go with a quality OWB they have some options as well.

Consider Alessi, milt-sparks, for leather OWB.

Happy to report that my wife passed the handgun carry class with flying colors. She shot very, very well with the Kahr. No malfunctions whatsoever. She really likes this little gun. I have to say that I really like it as well, and would like to get one for myself.
