People who talk on the cell phone and drive really piss me off!!!!!  For the 2nd time in my short life my truck has been totaled by someone talking on their phone! 5 years ago I was stopped at a red light when a Jack a$$ on the phone rearended me at 40mph. When I got out of my truck he was still having a conversation beleve it or not!! I told him to call 911 and he said "yeah, I guess I should". Then today my "new" truck was parked out front on the curb and another Jack a$$ on his phone plowed into my truck!! He said he dropped his phone and went to pick it up and went off the road. The cop said he was doing close to 40mph! I live in a 25mph zone and there are tons of kids running around the neighborhood! Thank God he hit my truck and not a little kid!! we have a lot of people speed down our street and I think I'm going to try and flag down these people and tell them to SLOW DOWN!!! I really think there needs to be a law passed to make using a cell while driving illegal, or at least make it manditory to use a hands free unit(head set) while driving!!

I should find out tomorrow if she is totaled. I hope I don't ever loose another car to a person who is irresponsible enough to talk on the phone and drive!

I drive up to my parents house almost every weekend. I constantly see people driving on the interstate who are talking on cell phones. Half of them are all over the road it really irritates me  I agree with you there should be some laws passed regarding driving while on a cell phone. Sorry about your truck :( you're right at least it wasn't a kid

Didn't New York recently pass a law against talking while driving? Others are bound to follow but, Chris, it's too late for you.

I see it here in Reno all the time and it's the same story. All talk and no drive.

If anyone I love get's killed or hurt by someone who was talking on the phone I think I will pound their phone through there head with the back of my Ang khola!! I'v had enough of this crap!!

..while talking on cell 'phones come very, very close to "justifiable cause" IMHO. I've had them rummage through their brief cases at a light, and drive through on the green with one hand full of papers and the other stuck in their ear. I've avoided a number of bad accidents just because of a slight movement at the edge of my vision, or a small change in "road sound", coming up behind me. I don't know how these clowns manage to stay alive as long as they do, and it is a wonder they don't take more with them when they finally get it. I think my main justification for going into full "condition red" with them is their attitude. One this weekend started to veer into my lane when I was about 3/4 of the way alongside - I honked, he glared over and shook his 'phone, like "Can't you see you interrupted my call?" Made me leave claw marks on my glove compartment door.....where the 220 rides.

Wal, is that a SIG 220!? I love SIG's, I shoot a 229 and maybe I'll use it on the next one that hits my car! Nah a khuk would be more fun!!:p

laws against "brandishing" and "terroristic threatening". If not for that, I believe it would be entirely appropriate to cause a SIGnificant change of attitude, and possibly leave SIGnatures on/in his trunk and door panels. Yep, it is a P220, and snacks on 230 gr. Hydra Shoks like they were candy. No aesthetic value whatsoever. Next to a bulldog puppy, it's the ugliest thing I've ever loved :D

I've got an idea. Let's just ad cell phones to the existing open bottle laws they have on the books for booze and we've got it made.

I noticed brother Fred uses a cell phone in his car but he's a phone nerd and somehow he's got everything all hooked up so all he has to do is push a button and the phone dials the number he wants and the input comes in over a speaker and there's a mic for output so Fred can drive with both hands on the wheel while he's talking and listening.

That's how I make my living
installing and supplying handsfree equipment for cell phones.

anyone interested I'll cut forumites a deal on equipment.
Let the other guys be the jack a$$e$.

drive safe all

Al and his brother both have "hands free" rigs, but I still say they are a distraction. I've always been afraid of drivers who talked to passengers, and were so loose-witted they had to look at who they were talking to, even if they were in the back seat. I've seen guys on the hand free sets gesturing as though the party they were talking to could see the gestures, and then lean into a dash mounted mic to shout something. The road is like the edge of a Khuk - you can forget for an instant where it is, but you can be damn sure it always knows where you are.

Mott - OOPS :o Doesn't change my opinion (years too late for me) but, OOPS, anyway :)

Chris - It took me 20 years to get used to the idea of stainless guns, and I've just come around to alloy frames, but reluctantly. I don't even have a credit card, so ask me about plastic in another 20 or so

I nearly lost my life to an idiot cell phone driving woman. She pulled out in front of my motorcycle at point blank range. I had nowhere to go and nothing to do but get on the brakes. I bounced off her car at about 30 mph. Only the Grace of a Higher Power and the excellent brakes on my Moto Guzzi kept me from being killed.

As it was, I spent 2 weeks in the hospital with "Sister Morphine," and the next 6 months progressing from bed, to wheelchair, to walker, to cane, and finally walking unassisted. My back still hurts (2 cracked vertebrae) and will probably hurt for the rest of my life.
Do I have a problem with cell phone drivers? You bet.
Almost got into a fracus with one jackass recently when I suggested that his driving might improve if his cell phone was inserted rectally. The "calming" presence of my wife prevented violence.

It's time to lobby your state legislator for a law making it a minimun $10,000 fine to operate a cell phone while operating a moving vehicle. And perhaps a mandatory 2yrs in the slammer for causing any sort of property or bodily injury while doing same.

Now, ya got me started!

Oh, the Sig P220 is a thing of great and wondrous beauty.
185 grain cor-bons group like wadcutters out of a Gold Cup (well, almost).

I know they are not for everyone and I don't particularly like mine either but with a 4mo old and a 3year old kind of gotta have it.

anyone interested I'll get you a kit for my cost you pay shipping.
I'll even offer online support to help you get it installed right.

they are not idiot proof , but with the hands free laws going into effect they will be required in a vehicle if your gonna talk.

your a great bunch of guys, so I'll try to help you and yours be a little safer

Ah.. the good ol' cell phone. I don't have one probably will never get one. No one phones me anyways... :( snif. Back to the cave.

I've seen some strange things on the road with pople on phones. When I see someone on the phone, I generally stay clear.

Bruise, are never gonna let that pople/people thing down are ya ;)

So some of you like 45's and khuks. I have a Kimber Classic Custom that loves Hydras also. I never did find the Sig to be a beauty either.

Ryan

.45's and Khuks, two great tastes that taste great together! Mine is, old school. Colt stainless enhanced Commander circa 1990. After a wee bit a' tuning, she gobbles up hydrashocks and spits the empties like watermelon seeds. Aren't Trijicon night sights the cat's PJ's?

Hey Wal, you may have to push the 220 envelope with the new stainless framed heavy-duty 220. At 38 oz. It'll heft like a Government Model. I've yet to see one, but the first time I do, I'll be looking at it in the car on the way home. BUT NOT while talking on a cell phone, mind you.

Sorry to hear about your truck, Chris, but like you said trucks are easier and less painful to replace than you or any of the kids in the neighborhood. It makes you wanna invest in a 50 pound box of roofing nails for speeders. People tear a$$ past my house all the time.

The only thing that bothers me about regulating cell phones is that there really isn't a whole lot of distance between that and regulating the car radio, or the number of passengers, or the type of passengers,...etc.

Basically, if the idiot driver wants to be distracted there are an endless number of ways to achieve it. Does it make a differnce if you get hit by a guy with a cell phone? Is it any worse than a guy with a cd in his hands, or a newspaper, map, sandwich, soda, or nakid blond nymph?

Place the empasis on the driver and stop wasting time with miscellaneous details. Your insurance premium isn't the only thing that you are going to suffer if you have an accident. We are going to have you tarred and feathered in the public square at high noon.

N2S you are correct! This is a fine line like alot of other things! The "I don't like it so don't you do it" mentality can be a very hard thing to find a happy medium for. We will have to find it without taking away more of everyone's freedoms if ya know what I mean!
