Cell phone's really tick me off!!!!

Mott, Thanks for the generous offer on the phone stuff!:) I still don't own one but if they came out with a more reliable one that is shock resistant and water resistant I'd buy it for camping and hiking uses!

Guess the similarity took hold, when the .45s started showing up. It isn't the instrument - it is the combination of the instrument and an idiot. Any instrument, with a liberal dose of idiot, is dangerous. I'll withdraw my suggestion to mark them with the 220, and adopt Chris's - Uncle Bill, tell Sanu his giant UBE has become the first TIRE KHUKURI!!! (Firestone Fighter?) :D

Twenty years ago I used to be frightened of cars with 2(caution), 3 (extra caution - especially with one in the back seat), or 4 women in a car.

Stereotypical, yes, but they did seem to be looking instead of driving, gesturing, etc. On the other hand you get beer drinking and road rage with men, so what to do?

Cel phones are just the latest fad in a long line of driving distractions. Years ago I was stopped at a traffic light on US 1 in a brand new unmarked police car. Some woman behind me used the mirror on her sun visor to put on makeup and she released enough pressure from her brake petal to bump into my vehicle. She was in a big hurry because she backed up and started to drive around my police car in the lane on my right. As soon as she got past me I hit my lights and siren. She jumped up like she had a firecracker go off under her seat and looked like she was going to have a heart attack. I presented her with several written mementos of our meeting and I still get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I think about this one that didn't get away. :) :D

Late 1980s and my brother and I are sitting in my K-5 Blazer enjoying the music at a red light (in light rain) ....

Boom....
(brother) What was that?....
(me) I think we've been hit...
(brother) Hit!
(me) Yup, somebody rear ended us and they are still there.

[we both get out to check the damage - neither of us had felt much of an impact]

The car behind looks to be about 6" shorter than it should be. The front grill, hood, side panels, and radiator are shot. The woman driver is standing there looking understandably worried. My truck looks untouched - there isn't an impact mark anywhere?????

It turns out she had hit the brakes, gone under the bumper, and hit the tow bar. No damage on my end.

Oh well ... If you are going to get hit .... :D

Just a couple of days ago I met a car coming down the street towards me -- nothing out of the ordinary except it was a one way street and I was going the "right" way. I honked and when the car got close enough I could see the driver was a little old gray haired lady about 90 I'd guess -- shaking her fist at me!!!!

Chris, very sorry to hear about your truck:( But I am glad that you (or anybody else) weren't hurt!

N2S,

I have an identical story to yours(I think I've told this one here before). Except I was slowing down in traffic in Maui one day, driving my GMC Jimmy. When all of a sudden BOOM! I got out and there was a 16-17 year old girl standing by her little tiny Honda hatchback(which she had had lowered to within an inch of the pavement). The hood was crumpled and folded almost halfway back and the radiator was ripped wide open. She started screaming at ME, and telling me that I slowed down too fast, and that my bumper was to shiny so she didn't see my brakelights! Just before the accident I had looked in my mirrors and hadn't even seen a car--to give you some idea of how close she was following! My car had no damage at all( except the corner of the license plate was bent), as her's went right under me and met up with my frame. I would have felt bad for her as it was a new car and she was just a kid, but she kept trying to blame me, and tell me how it was all my fault. SHe even tried to tell that to the cops who just kinda smiled at me and shook his head.

Uncle Bill: Makes you wonder how many times a week that old lady drives down that road the wrong way and shakes her fist at people!

On the cell phone topic: yep, handsfree is the way to go:)

Uncle Bill, are u sure you were driving the right way?:D

N2S and Rob, I'm glad your vehicles were ok!:) They sure don't make em' like that anymore!! Those K-5's and GMC's were built like tanks!!

I hate cell phones too, and don't have one. People should have to pull off before using them. Yes, there are other distractions, but the cell phone is always distracting.

Since the latest statistics from the NTSB show that people use cell phones have the same accident rate as drunk drivers, then a cell phone should be treated EXACTLY the same as an open container, and anyone having one that is within reach of the driver should go to jail. Based on the facts.

I guess they could put them in their trunks, and then use them while stopped.

I only drive the wrong way after 18.5 bottles of Heineken but I get away with it because I look so young, handsome and intelligent.

At 18 bottels of Heineken just about anything looks young and attractive...and anything you hear is intelligent. Of course that is before the pavement jumps up and pops you in the mouth. ;) :D

I just found out that my truck is not totaled! It's at the best body shop in Colorado and the fella said it is not as bad as it looks.
$6,000 should fix it up and he said that he can get the frame back to normal with out much trouble, I hope so!!:( He also said if I have any mechanical trouble in the future they will look at the problem and see if it came from the impact and if so they will take care of it. I should get her back by the end of the month and I'll let you know how good she looks!!:)

Chris,

I'm glad your truck is repairable... I hope it all goes back together alright.

Mott, thanks for the offer on the phone setup. I actually might have to take you up on the offer... my old faithful microtac elite is going south, and I just don't have the energy to get another one on Ebay...

I don't even want to use my phone in the car, but I have to when I'm out running around shooting photos... but being where I am, I have to use the 3 watt power booster/hands free kit to get a good signal.

I had a Sig 229 .40mm about five years ago. It was too big for my hands. I grew up shooting a Commander and that still feels the most natural to me. Although I did have a nice afternoon shooting a S&W Sigma a few years ago with Wal and his friend.

Some day, I'll get another Commander...

Alan

I got my truck back today and I must say Cooper auto body did a superb job! It is just about perfect and I am a happy camper now! I had her out on the open road testing her out and she performed flawlessly! I just hope I do not have any trouble in the future but I guess time will tell. It sure is good to have her back!!!:D
