Hey that looks pretty good, might have to try that on a esee 6.....

The esee 6 is a production knife.

I must inform you that this offer is for knife makers. It is not intended for the upgrade of personal knives.

It IS intended for knifemakers to have a new tool in their arsenal.

Please accept my apologies for any confusion. Thanks for your interest.

Hi Scott-

I'm very interested in all of this. My normal work is kind of on the other end of the spectrum to what you'd see this type of finish on... so I'm trying to wrap my head around just how it would all go together.

You mentioned in the other thread that you blast the blade and then coat it. I'm wondering how aggressive the blasting is, and how thick the coating is. This all would affect the fitment of the knife.

Obviously the knife needs to be ready to be put back together once it's coated.

I tried the FAQ on the site to address these ideas, but nothing came up.

While most of all of my work has been collector grade stuff in the last several years, I have been toying wiht the idea of making some utility field knives out of O1 tool steel... and the idea of this coating has me very intrigued.

I would like to give it a try. THANK YOU for the generous offer!!! :)

OK, I'll try to help.

The coating is approximately 1 mil thick. The blasting is quite fine and does not even change the dimensions of softer aluminum gun parts. All I am doing is evening out the texture of the surface. Giving it the correct profile for the surface bond of the Cerakote.

Yeppers. The blade will be finished except for the sharpening.

I guess part of the reason I am offering the freebie to makers is so we can together learn the fine points makers need to know. As I am not a knifemaker, I wont understand all the fine points from that POV. Just as you have to ask questions about the coating and process.

Thanks to you for your thoughtful comment. I hope to do a blade for you. Then maybe more!

I'd be game to try it. I have a knife that I just finished heat treat on that this would be perfect for. Your conditions are very reasonable and I have no problems agreeing to them.

Jamie

I can see ceracote on at least 1 or 2 knives that I make.

I'd like to get in on this too if possible

Thanks

Murdock and adammichael I could not PM you. Please call me 909-957-5212

PM's sent to the rest.

Looks like my list is complete.

Please PM me when you send your blade. This way I can plan to go the mailbox when they arrive.

Plus don't forget to send my your color choice!

How does Ceracote compare to Gunkote?
From the website I understand that the coating needs to go in an oven.
What temperature is used?

Hello Hengelo;

Thanks for the questions. Gunkote and Cerakote really do not compare. From all the research I have done online Gunkote scratches and chips quite easily.

Cerakote DOES NOT. Cerakote, when impacted upon, flexes with the metal substrate and is at the same time super hard to resist scratching.

I made a youtube video about this.

Knife cure temp is 250 for one hour. The knives heat up faster than guns. Guns we do for 2 hours at 250.

Thanks again.

That's cool, and it's nice of you to offer it for free samples to a few makers.

Might be some stuff worth coating in my future, probably not knives, but maybe.

Maybe later on I'll get a quote for a coating on a knife I hadd reground and blasted.

Hey guys, where's the knives?

Polarforge how close to finished are you?

I got mine in the mail yesterday and finished it about 30 minutes ago. I will try to get a pic tonight and post later tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks

John
