Was digging around google today when I came across this on jerzeedevils for anyone that is not in the know:

The Manix2 will be offered in all three edge configurations. The PlainEdge and the SpyderEdge were available first, but the CombinationEdge is on the way. This is the first of the Manix2. We have another in the works that will include carbon fiber scales and FFG CPM-S90V. There's a third in the works, but I can't talk about it yet.

There are a few FFG Manix2 with 154CM out there. The change from FFG to hollow ground was made part way through the Pilot run.

Hope this helps.

Kristi
EDIT: Btw, that was TazKristi posting ofc.

Not gonna happen, but I would buy two if the third iteration was a FFG laminated ZDP-189 Ti Framelock!!! I just got the stomach bubbles thinking about that.

I inquired about a ZDP-189 Manix 2...Sal said they'd rather use s90v which he said is compariable if not better than ZDP-189. Also, it will still be a bbl knife.

But yea, I'd love a ZDP-189 Manix 2 or a bbl ZDP-189 Stretch (which also will not happen most likely, according to Sal).

I prefer S90V to ZDP-189. IIRC it was a 4"+ model? Someone back me up with a quote here. I'm getting a little worried it might not be.

Yea, they have mentioned on a handful of occasions (Kristi and Sal IIRC) that there will be a 4 inch or greater model Manix 2. Whether they were alluding to the s90v CF FFG version or the "third" version remains to be seen.

I really hope they don't stick some carbon fiber on this thing. As much as I love it, it's a workhorse, not something I want to pamper. Best bet with CF is the peel-ply stuff though.

A third, same size Manix 2 that may be in the works would be an FRN model. I remember Sal mentioning that possibility, and the D'Allara convinced me a massively tough and strong FRN Ball Lock is very possible. I'd buy one to go with my standard Manix 2. Matter of fact, I have more interest in the FRN version than the S90V version. If it was M4 I may be singing a different tune.

Same here. I hope they go with micarta or smooth g-10. I'm beginning to hate the checkered g-10 because of how easily they get dirty. My, otherwise new, ZT 0350 has sweat crust build up on the g-10 slab. I know they are easy to clean with soap, warm water, and a toothbrush, but I rather not have to do that every few weeks.

EDIT: I do like the FRN, but always thought Spyderco's signature web-like texturing on them was a bit tacky for my tastes.

M4, FRN, BBL? Don't make me drool. :D

I don't like the smooth stuff, especially on a hard use folder like the Manix. It's dressy, not functional. Break down and give it a scrub. You'll appreciate the grip when you stab something with a smooth handled knife and your hand runs straight down the blade.

The ZTs have a nice index finger groove to prevent slipping, plus the flipper acts as a guard. I would think the Manix 2 has even more grip because of the finger grooves.

I'd say on knives like the BM 710 I'd welcome an aggressive texture. Hmmm, I never thought about giving the scales a light scrub to take away some texture. Will have to consider that.

I asked Sal about the Manix2 variant sizes and he said they will be the same size. I actually like the size of the Manix2 the way it is now. If you want a 4"er go with the S90v Millie.

Already have the Millie. I just think another a larger Manix 2 would be cool.

The larger Manix is coming. Maybe they won't call it a Manix 2, but a Manix 3 or something with Manix in it.

Do you have a source? Maybe Sal can chime in.

I don't have a source per se (don't have searching privileges), but he's chimed in on this forum in a few threads as well as in the Spyderco.com forums.

Well I can't link another forum but I can do this.

Will the next Manix2 be the same size?

All of the Manix2 models should be the same size and pattern. We'll be playing with different materials. We also have a TeroTuff Manix2 version in the works.

Now this does go without saying, that maybe a Manix3 could be bigger. ;)
