What are your thoughts on challenge coins?

Here are some examples of ones if you don't know what they are.

Mrs. S, wouldn't the ESEE logo be more appropriate ??? Just kidding. :D
My son collects coins & myself would think this would be a good idea. Any ideas on material, style, costs, etc. yet?
Be safe.
p.s.: by the way, I also did a load of laundry while my dear wife was asleep this morning, just wanted you to know. . . :)

That would be pretty cool.

I was thinking the other day about when someone was kind of butt hurt about the skull logo and Jeff or Mike said they liked it because it kind of says "Don't want to end up like this? Build skills then."

I like ESEE stuff not because I'm a fan boy but because it's kind of a reminder that skills prevail over gear and Jeff and Mike worry about that more than selling whiz-bang gadgets.

man i was just going to suggest rat pack challenge coins. I have one for another organization i belong to. i know it's expensive to get the die made plus some of the companies that make them have minimum initial orders. I'd be down for one. ESEE logo on one side, something about the rat pack on the other side.

I like of the idea of the coin but ownership of challenge coins usually means you attended a course or were a member of the organization.

Very similar to this

On the bottom we'd have the new pack name and above the skull I was thinking it would be nice to have a raised portion where pack numbers could be engraved.

As for as material and costs I'm still waiting for quotes on my cost before I can quote your costs.

I'd be down for one. ESEE logo on one side, something about the rat pack on the other side.

ESEE logo on one side, your Rat Pack ### & anything else on the other??
Nope, wait, would probably have to make an individual die for each coin . . .
God I'm glad I did not hit the send button too quickly . . . :)
Be safe.
p.s.: I got it . . . how about the ESEE logo on one side, something about the Rat Pack / BFWS / ESEE knife profile or a model / etc. etc. ???

One sided. 2 sided jumps the price too much.

You are a member of the pack!

Since I've now been called an ESEE Superfan, I'd sure be up for one.

I hate 'em. They are a useless token that merely takes up space for no good reason.

Maybe an ESEE logo'd crack pipe would be more useful?

Not always. I've seen corporations give them out at conventions and they always have them at the BX/PX for the base you're at or the operation you're in (e.g. OIF or OEF). However, the coins from the orgs you belong to or that you're given for doing the job well, those are the ones that mean something.

The other problem with the coins is that once the die is made and the coins are struck, it's tough to control the output and disposition of further coins. So don't think for a second that they will somehow be exclusive or collectible. ESEE coins would end up on the counter in Turkey or Korea or China or the PI or wherever you have the coins made. On the flip side, it might be great advertising to the wanabes and general populace.

Typically, the loser of the challenge pays a penalty. What is it if you don't have your ESEE coin?

I have been given hundreds of callenge coins over the years. Almost ALL of them I have given away because they don't really mean anything to me. The only ones I have kept is a coin from the DEA Colombia Jungle Ops due to the mission we did with the Junglas and DEA there and also a few from a couple of agencies we have done some stuff with. Otherwise, they simply take up space, IMO. Shot glasses with our logo on them are far more useful!

Oooo. Now THAT's a good idea.

Shotglasses that is.

If you thought you looked manly with your knife strapped on you ain't seen nothin' 'til you started drinking shots out of a glass with a skull on it. All you need now is a wolf t-shirt...
