Challenge coins

if they're plated pot metal they wouldn't engrave well, they'd need to be solid bronze or whatever, and that's probably much more expensive.

i'm with Jeff on the whole challenge coin thing. no meaning to it if you can just buy one for a few bucks. if it's somehting that you had to earn, then maybe it's different. dunno, some of the crazy stuff i've done i just got a t-shirt or a patch for, not a coin.

don't know anyone who plays "challenge coin drinking games".

but i have heard that some high ranking .mil individuals have coins they give out to people, and the lowest ranking coin buys. again, i don't know any of those people so i can't confirm or deny any of that, just what i've heard. still not an "earned" thing, just based on who you know.

soo, i'm probably going to save my pesos for knives, guns, ammo and other useful stuff.

but if you need any art done for a coin, i'm happy to help. i've done pins and other stuff before.

I agree, fixer, they should be earned.

I still believe they are as queer as football bats, though, and should be advertised as such. Anything else is hypocritical. (Of course, that's just my opinion, I'm not recruiting any followers, as they say.)

I have been given hundreds of callenge coins over the years. Almost ALL of them I have given away because they don't really mean anything to me. The only ones I have kept is a coin from the DEA Colombia Jungle Ops due to the mission we did with the Junglas and DEA there and also a few from a couple of agencies we have done some stuff with. Otherwise, they simply take up space, IMO. Shot glasses with our logo on them are far more useful!

This ^...

In the military context they used to mean something. They meant that you had accomplished something noteworthy and relatively important as it related to your skillset as a soldier. They are currently way, way overdone - there are members of congress that have their own coin now, and hand them out like party favors - WTF???. Totally meaningless.

I have a Regimental Commanding Officer's coin that is awarded for exemplary service. There are terms of reference that accompany it and it cannot be awarded unless the potential recipient meets at least 2 of the conditions in the TOR. There were 100 minted and we have the rights to the die, none can be purchase by anyone else. There have been 4 distributed this year and all for true merit. They are numbered and logged so that we can look at any coin and by going to the log we know what it was awarded for and to whom. They mean something due to the conditions of issue and the exclusivity...

Being able to buy a challenge coin is like buying a set of jump wings or a Ranger tab. I'd for sure be in for shot glasses though...

just my 2 cents

i think a challenge coin for the ratpack or whatever name we go with would be just a fun piece of logo gear just like busse or scrapyard.

its just like buying a patch to put on a bag its a conversation item

i have challenge coins that i earned and yes they are important to me, but this is a knife forum and most of this is for fun.

most of the stuff i buy is not because i need it, including most knives its because i want it or just for fun.

don't take things too seriously in life, its over all too soon.

take it easy

THIS IS MY EXACTLY MY POINT . . . :D
Be safe.

I've decided I want an Asian leprechaun on my challenge coin.

Busse did shot glasses, but I've been trying to talk Jerry into doing some etched whiskey tumblers forever. You could beat that Scotch snorting bastid to the punch! :D

I think blake-g49 and cricketdave are both correct - make 'em, just don't call them "challenge coins" and everyone leaves happy.

Now, giving challenge coins to those who complete the ESEE/Randall survival courses, THAT would mean something.

Well, there goes the shot glass idea. Wouldn't want to be accused of copying anyone. Ok, I can guarantee no one in the knife industry has made coke spoons to sell and pass out at trade shows. So, I think that's the direction we need to head.

He nailed it. Sell "trinkets" or "trivets" and give the real deal to those who earn them. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for my ESEE whiskey tumbler. :p

Or we can do condomns with our logo on the package. They can be used for smuggling the coke for the spoons.

The one's Busse did were nice. I had three or four, but I gave most of them away and may have one or none left. I tend to drink my Thunderbird straight from the bottle.

I still think that's trivial as hell. Challenge coins, to me, have been bastardized and I have zero use for them. If we're going to to do something then make it something people will talk about. Make it "outside the box" and somethign with attitude and controversial. Everyone has a damn challenge coin. What fun is in that?

That's gay looking. Not much attitude in that shot glass.

Will these be ribbed for pleasure in the bush? Or are these going to be the straight-laced unlubricated versions that can be used as a canteen?

I think that's real gold on the rim. At least that's what I told the guy on the corner when I traded it to him for some coke. About those spoons....

Official ESEE bong? If Jeff and Mike could use their South American connections to guarantee a pound of weed with each bong, they might be onto something.
Well..... if that something is called extradition.

I actually like the challenge coin idea. Not being in the military, and just being a hobbist, the coins are not easy to come by for the average joe who likes knives and cool gear. Not that I would buy any companies coins, but I like Esee gear and would purchase that coin because that coin would mean something to me. Hope that makes sense.

We actually did think about doing a challenge coing yeas ago with our logo on one side and a big $ sign on the other side. Real simple and it means something to us. That is my vote. Mike

And is I recall correctly around the perimeter was going to be the saying "Money is made possible only by the men who produce"
