After seeing a post in the general discussion about using something you dont normally, I decided this forum could use one too.

RULES
1. Pick a knife that isn't in your daily rotation
-A new pattern, a neglected knife, something you never got around to carrying, etc.

2. Carry the knife everyday, try at least a week
-You can carry another one or two of regular carries if you like having multiple knives

3. Use the knife whenever it is called for
-Don't force yourself to cut sheetrock with a peanut :p

4. Use the knife as a worrying stone as you would any other, but ONLY use the knife you're trying out.

5. Post some pictures!

6. After your chosen time is up (or you can't stand only using the knife,) make a serious evaluation
-Like it? Put it in your daily rotation
Hate it? Sell it or see if someone else might enjoy it (Use PMs for trades, gifts)

I'll start, I'm going to carry my little tear drop Valley Forge Jack, previously limited to processing evening fruit, in addition to my Opinel.

I think this is a great way to get our collections more practical, discover appreciation, and get something new maybe.

I dig this idea for choosing Friday's carry. I actually applied some of these concepts to the two new carries I have today, but I'd be fooling myself if I didnt say aesthetics were at least 50% of the reason for my choices.

Bookmarking the thread and will surely follow up on these guidelines.

Aesthetics only influence me when I dress up, but maybe if I had a bunch of knives to choose from it would play a factor?

After a lot of deliberation and a few false starts, I settled on a Keen Kutter pearl-handled equal-end which will likely ride in the watch pocket for the week alongside some of my bigger knives. I figure this should keep the blade profiles varied and save my watch pocket some of the wear from those burly Barlows.

Besides being pretty, it looks good to serve as a worry stone for the whole week (I've already had it out a few times today :D) and it should be able to tackle all the smallish cutting jobs I will encounter on an indoor day at the office. Here it is as part of Monday's carry along with the bigger fellas:

Tsar, I've got a nice Henkels Serpentine pen knofe that matches that pretty well. It has a Clip main and spear secondary, but the pair would look good together. As for the challenge, I cant use my Valley Forge for everything, it simply is too nice (F&F are really really really good for an antique production knife) and the knife too small to be comfortable in hand with long use. It's great for carving however, so it will stay around.

The same goes for my KK, it would not be well-served as a general-purpose knife but it makes a fine "dress-up" or gent's knife. Generally I've got a bigger knife along for the ride so the little fella's safe from being overworked, at least. I'm going to run it against a finishing stone and strop tonight so it's ready for action for the rest of the week. It's too easy to get lost in the pearl of the mark side scale. It's probably not well-represented in a 2D static image but there are so many layers to it that it's mesmerizing.

Oh I agree, a good pearl is wonderful. That's why I love my blue oyster Northfield, its so pretty and interesting.

I switch out my daily carry knives every few weeks. I carry a handful at a time.

I rotated this weekend.

What a great idea for a thread. I decided to except your challenge my friend and started digging through my knives and grabbed this Rough Rider Congress. I bought this knife, looked at it and threw it in a knife roll. It has never been in my pocket and has never cut anything. For one reason I have never been a huge fan of the Congress pattern and have a tendency to carry the same few knives over and over. I just stuck it in my pocket and I'll keep it there until next Monday. I will try to remember to take some pictures of the task it preforms and let you know how it did and if I like it or not.

Conbon, I accept your challenge; this used to be a regular EDC for me (before I blossomed into a full bloom knife-knut and created a "rotation" six or seven years ago). I pulled it out and have carried it since Sunday - one of my favorite Case pen knives - it is fun to get reacquainted with it. OH

Not too much for my little Keen Kutter to do today but slice through some remarkably thick supply bags, so I took a second to save the moment for posterity. :p

Some more office work for my little pearl pocket pal. Slicing through packing tape with gusto!

Turned out to be some promotional swag from a vendor. :o

Tsar, good to see you're keeping the pearl in pocket! I need to find a knife to do this challenge with, maybe swap stockman for sibgle blade.

It's a neat idea for a thread and a challenge, although it takes some extra puzzling to piece together the day's carry properly. I nearly missed out on Wooden Wednesday until I remembered my 11031SH on the way out the door, so I grabbed the slip for the KK and popped it into my RFP instead of my watch pocket. I'm already kicking some ideas around for next week. :D

I'll have a go at a double Case carry, 74 single blade trapper in watch, 72 sodbuster back right. Just gotta sharpen the soddie after cutting up sod a while back

I use a different new knife every week. My rule is if I own it I have to carry it at least one week. I got into pocket knives August '15 and started December 1st '15 'till now. Anyways, this weeks choice...

I'm pretty stuck on my tactical knives. What I have, I can use well tactically; so they remain the same for now. Every week is a different pocket knife though.
