I am looking for opinions and suggestions on a fixed blade tactical/military style knife. My requirments are:

No combo/serrated edge.

Must be FULL tang.

Around .250 in. thick.

Blade must be 5-7in. in length.

No rubber handles (ie, Kraton and like crap).

Made of a quality steel... I would prefer D2, 1095 carbon steel, or similar. But will consider others.

I like Cold Steel's Recon and SRK but can't stand the cheep rubber feel of the handle. I love the looks, and hardcore aspects of the Strider Knives and Tops Knives but can't afford thier price tags... I am willing to spend around $150.00 +or- a few $ for a decent blade. If you have any suggestions or comments please let me know.. Thanks.

The Livesay Air Assault is a great buy. Very sweet knife, and Newt does a great job heat treating the 1095.

Do you really need the Full Tang?

Look at the Ka-Bar series. Proven in battle and War, I do not think the Tang was a problem.

The D2 model is AMAZING.

I cannot get over how good it is for the money! Take a look at it!

Take a look at some Greco's. The MST models kick ass IMHO, and are in your price range. You will be getting full tang, micarta handles, A2, and all for $100-150. I have an MST Mark II-5. Blade grinds aren't perfect, and it is a little rough looking, but it appears that it will take some serious damage and not have a problem. I would like to get it out in the woods and play some, but I have little time right now.

Yeah, I know you get what you pay for... I just know I would feel pretty bad about scratching up a 300.00+ knife. So, let me ask you something, do you use your Strider? I mean really use it? Or does it just sit in its sheath for collectivity?:-) I am not meaning this as a flame or anything, I am just looking for a good tactical/military, CQB WORKING knife. One that I can get dirty, sratched, dull, nicked, and well basically take all the abuse I can throw at it and feel absolutely guilt free.

Hawk Recon, eh?

Let me debate a little bit, but I have a HR with the 5.5" hunters point that might be relieved from my collection at some point in time if you are thinking TOPS. Maybe send me an email or something, but again, I'll have to debate it, as I love that knife, just don't use it ever, and it begs for usage.

Why not put together a tactical knife to your specifications? Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works just introduced a line that you can mix and match blade designs, handle designs (and colors), blade finish, sheath options, etc. Blade length is 6.5 on all styles. For the price ($110), you are not going to find a better tactical knife. Check them out HERE.
