So, this afternoon just for sanity check, I went back and ran an all-diamonds progression. Which consisted of:
DMT XC (220) > DMT C (325)
Strop the flat side on the DMT C plate to deburr.
This just confirmed again what we know: diamonds are best on super steels. This edge easily surpasses the SiC stone results, including that it will slice Rizla green paper horizontally. Note that I got those results with 2 coarse grits, haven't even refined at higher grits.
ETA: Here's the horizontal push-cut on the Rizla green. And yes, I have a minor issue to fix around the heel of my edge--sharp, but not a perfectly consistent bevel. Hey, just a weekend amateur sharpener in training here, don't bust my chops!
