I got this one from Mark and promised to beat on it. It's 5160 with 5 1/2" of sharpened edge and is 11" OAL. The handles are black G10 with stainless tubes. The thickness at the spine is 3/16". It came with a nice beefy sheath.

Fisrt impression was that it was lighter than I expected. I might be that the extra material on the handle changes the balance. It came with a good edge, but not shaving sharp.

I took it to the lake yesterday and was going to take pictures but I forgot the memory card. I did take some pics with my phone but I don't know how to get them off the phone. :thumbdn:

So today I beat on it a bit before it started raining.

I took a chunk off my chopping stump.

Then I decided to use the exposed tang and just pound it in straight on. I flexed it quite a bit and had to bash the top of the handle to rock it loose.

I beat on the spine, butt and top of handle with no damage. The blade was just as good as when I started.

Although I usually prefer wood handles the G10 works good on a knife you just want to beat on. It's a little too light for chopping but suited to batoning. I think a similar knife without the exposed tang, an edge that goes a little closer to the handle and some walnut scales would be sweet.

That's a great looking blade, real practical in design......I like it !!!

Nice review Bruce. Ive been waiting to see someone beat on that design.

Cool knife too.......

It looks pretty darn bomb proof to me. There's just no way your going to be breaking that tip!

Bruce knows how to make a knifemaker sweat !!! :D After seeing this review, I went and dug out the Navy metalsmith manual where I "discovered" my heat treating method for 5160. Then I kissed the manual... :p

Nice review, Bruce!

Looks like a great knife to have at camp or in the woods.
Did you try any food prep with it?

I have watch Mark make these type of knives and it was amazing. They can take a beating and I think they are a great knife. Hope to one day own one myself. Mark keep them coming. Who ever gets one won't regret it.

Wow! It looks like you did everything except bashing it through metal piping. :D

Nice review and keep us posted on how it works for you!

Hate to be a downer, but that front talon hole is a Busse trademark. He's going to have to stop using it.

Nice knife though.

Having been fortunate enough to get a knife made my Mark over a year or so ago I can vouch for their top notch quality and strength, I would put them up against anything out there.....and I do mean anything, they are as tough as they come. Mark is a heck of a good guy too, great to deal with. If I could, I would buy one of these today!

Guys, I am not trying to be a jerk. I am just telling the truth. The hole is a trademark, just like the Spyderco hole. It is trademark infringement using it. It may seem silly, but a hole can be trademarked. Just ask Sal Glesser (Spyderco) or Jerry Busse (Busse Combat Knives).
