Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. We're just doing a little sightseeing before we move, strange feeling like a tourist in NYC.
Got to start cutting with the Tanto, it's definitely going to be a user. Next up will be me asking questions about sharpening...

Hi guys!

Thanks for the call Wayne!

Ian - I like a waterstone for sharpening (maintenance) the most, I use a 1000 and 6000 King Ice Bear (not the combo, separate stones but the combo is cool too). The King Ice Bear stones are a really good deal for what they can do.

My other favorite stone is a white 1" wide ceramic (?) that can be used wet. I bought it with a bunch of edm stones and it was very cheap, like 6$. It is 1200 grit and builds up a quick but somewhat fine edge. I'll try to figure out where I bought it. This one is not an EDM stone, it is ceramic I think but the EDM stones are great for thinning edges and more.

I strop with plain leather then newspaper or phone book paper.

That is what I use in my house for maintenance (when I feel like hand sharpening which I often enjoy) , for knives I sell I generally use a machine sharpening setup. The tantos went from 120-2000 grit then were stropped with green compound on a leather belt.

Murray Carter covers the technique I use very well.

I managed to splash some ramen on my laptop last night in a feat of acrobatics often not seen! I killed my mouse but found an plug in one and am back in business! :D

Dude, you kill laptops quicker than anyone I know...

I use the cheap route for sharpening, lapping films and surface block. My entire kit costs $20 from edge setting to final stropping. I do need to replace films occasionally, but it's every bit as good as a stone.

Laptop assassin! :D yeah pretty lame title I know.

I really like the surface block and paper too, the 3m lap films are excellent. I use Windex to hold down the paper and on the paper.

I think we should take up a collection for the Save a Computer fund for Daniel.

I mean not only does he keep us aware of all the newest stuff and let us know when we can buy new toys, look at the first class humor! Flying noodles and Daniel in the air!!!!! , it doesn't get much better than that!

Can someone make him a sign? Something like ...

If you have Food in your hand,

Step Away From the Computer!

Good times, fun times!

Didya get the munchies, Daniel? :D

Hey Rolf,

I hope Daniel doesn't take it badly, our joking. I remember doing the same at work, burned my hand to. There are a lot of noodles in there, cleaning the key board out was a trip. When my Aides came in after lunch, they asked what I spilled this time. I spill alot of coffee to. When the students ask why there's coffee on the test sheets, I tell them it's our new antiquing effects.

Kind of like brown tie-dye...pretty neat. Down with boring 😎

Morning squatchlings.

Sometimes I thoroughly hate eBay. I found a timney trigger for one of my rifles and was bidding on it. It closed early this morning, I was still the high bidder and when it got down under a minute I was thinking I was good to go. Well, at 7 seconds to go I refreshed and was out bid with not enough time to bid

That's one reason why I like some sites like gunbroker that has a 15 minute rule. Any bidding in the final 15 minutes starts over a 15 minute clock. It's like a live auction, going once, going twice... no chance to get sniped. [/rant]

Anyways, make it a great day!

Evening DFK fans. I'm beginning to like this WIFI thing. Yesterday I was smoking a cigar on the back porch and looking at BF on my phone. I can see this causing me to buy a lap top or tablet in the future.

Hey guys! I'm using the laptop in one of those chemical vent hood thingies with the gloves.

Thanks Don! I do go through the laptops quite a lot. I'm usually eating or drinking coffee when answering emails as I get a lot of them. Bad habit! I can get in more shop hours that way though...

IMWILSON, that is nice! I had dial-up for so long... liking this fast net here! It's through my phone line but pretty good considering I don't get a TV signal!

X, that sounds good! You have me looking into gun builds now.

XxdrpxX that sounds nice! I like the grips on the Sig you posted a lot.

I worked on my place a bunch today... fitted folder blades yesterday and it was a big day! Clack, clack, clack, clack!

Dan, those grips are made by vz grips. I have bought a few pairs from them. Great company.

Daniel, if you ever get to the point of scratching the itch to build a gun, two great ways to start is either the Ruger 10/22 for an inexpensive rimfire build or a Savage 110 for a little bit more expensive bolt action centerfire. Both of those are pretty much bolt on and minimal custom part fitment. Buying inexpensive, non working old rifles is not something I really recommend for the beginner. Swapping parts gives you custom and a shootable gun right away. Both guns have massive amounts of parts available and info out there. I won't give you the websites unless you really want them, it's like getting a year one catalog for your truck! You just feel your credit card getting hot in your wallet!

Drp, I've always been a fan of canjar triggers or jewel triggers. Only real reason I was after this timney is because it's about the only option for my rifle. The trigger in it now is very nice, no creep, ultra clean break but about 7.5#

Oh, anyone near Nashville keep an eye out for someone selling ARP rifle barrels. Turns out that a FedEx employee has stolen several from the terminal within the last two weeks. One of those was my dad's new barrel for another AR15 project! Wilson, I'm not too good at geometry, don't know if Nashville is east or West or up or down in your funny shaped state ;-)

Holeehell it's Monday!
Don- Daniel can take our assault :D and he can dish it out too. Humor is a good thing. (:>)
Make it a good day.

Wassup guys.

Off this week; a long planned vacation down to Cape May. A thunderstorm swept through the area last night, taking my 20 year old cat and leaving me without power until a few hours ago.

Even though I'm off, I'm totally ready for this week to be over.
