cheap axis-style lock

there was a time when
the axis lock was all the rage.
even cold steel had something
call the ultra lock system.
they was used on the 1st generation
recon 1 folders
perhaps sourcing from the secondary
market may be the one right way ...

Possibly a good option, but not sure what the OP's budget is, and the old Recon 1's with the Ultra Lock in good shape are bringing $100-$200 from what I'm seeing on ebay.

I can't support nor recommend a Ganzo to experience an "axis" lock. Despite the theft of design features and style, I've handled several of the Ganzo axis-style locks and they don't feel anything like the genuine thing. They are very stiff and sticky compared to a Benchmade. They don't ever have that wonderful axis-lock-fidget-factor.

You can watch the sales threads here at BF. There are often lightly used Griptilians for sale at very reasonable prices. Also look out for Hogue Able Lock knives and there's at least one MassDrop knife called the Perpetua that's made by Millit which has an axis style lock. Both Hogue and Millit started making their axis style locks AFTER the Benchmade patents had expired. Not so with Ganzo.

They're getting pretty hard to find now but some of the old H&K knives were made by Benchmade and had genuine Axis locks at a significantly lower price than a Benchmade.

I'll second the SOG Terminus XR. Get one with the red or green G10 and you can get a nice D2 blade for around $50. If it has to be cheaper, Gerber has the Highbrow which is an A/O for around $33, but I can't vouch for the quality. They also announced the Sumo, which has an Axis-style lock and I genuinely like the lines of, but you would have to wait for it to release.
