Cheap Belts

Bill,
There 120 grit belts were fantastic and dirt cheap.
I heard that the owner was called in by the BIG company that he got many of his belts from and told that other suppliers were pissed because of the price he offered on ebay.
They told him everything was double from now on.
The owner got mad and told the to piss off!
That is such a shame.

I buy from true grit and super grit most often.
They both have great service.

Sounds like the anti-competetive 'wipes won again, even though discount abrasives took the higher moral ground. And the free market loses.

Dan, Scott at abrasives R Us called me today and said he couldn't/wouldn't sell them for the prices on the web site. I told him to cancel my order and he said he was sorry but for the prices and the quality of their belts, they can't be beat anywhere else. I told him to go ahead and send the order then, minus a few belts off the original order and I would give them a try. The prices he quoted I don't know, I just asked him for a total and will let you know what the individual price is after they get here sometime next week. I feel like an idiot, giving in to his crap but I'm in need of these j flex belts, I only have 2 left.
Good luck,

Bill

thanks Bill
sorry to hear that, I was hoping I heard wrong..
it should be 2.00 per belt even though he said he'd work with the prices
that Sandy gave me at industrialabrasives.com.. I think I may got with her anyway now..
Scott should remove that web site if he can't honor it..it has no business being they..

Darren I'm afraid you'll find that is an automatic reply from the out dated site as you can tell by Bills experience.:(

That's a bummer to hear Bill. I was hoping they would at least honor the site's prices :( .

I gotta agree with Dan about the website. If they or their webmaster can't keep the site updated and accurate then they should remove it or at the very least remove the pricing info.

I agree guys, thats why I feel like an idiot. If I had a knife priced at x amount on my site and someone wanted it, I sure as heck would honor that price even if I mispriced it. Thats just part of it. I doubt he'll get anymore of my money, but he told me he made over 400 new customers at the Blade show so I guess he thinks he doesn't need to honor the web site, and I guess I'm proof of that. I'll let you know when I get the individual prices.

I'm just glad Wheelers off working somewhere else, or I'd never hear the end of it.

:o

Man that was fast! I just checked abrasivesRus and the listed web site price for J weight belts is now 2.30 ea. Guess I missed it!

I told him the other day on the phone he'd better change his web site prices or delete it, because there was several on BF that was thinking about ordering from it. He gave me the impression he didn't have the ability or knowledge to do so, I don't know what to think now. If he was able to get it changed this quick, he should foresure have honored the website prices. Just another example that the learning experiences in the knifemaking profession are never ending.

Bill

I got the same phone call as Bill. I'm not sure what to think either. The overall order total was about 11% higher. Still not bad if they're a good supplier and the belts are of good quality, but they should have honored the web site prices imho.

Ok, I just checked their website. On Friday I was told the J-weight belts were $2.00, and now they are set at $2.30 on the website? What justified that additional increase?

They jury is definitely still out on these guys... I'm a little confused as to how they conduct business at this point...

-Darren

Bill he sounded like a used car salesman to me:o .. a little too hungry
and little honor.
we can still do some co-op-ing with the other at $1.83 cost.
we'd just have to work out shipping costs and what have you..

Any update on a good source? I read Ed Caffrey's review on Hog Abrasives in another Forum. "Not Good"

Mike, I've been waiting to see how the belts performed, since they claimed there products were as good as any before I posted again.

As with Caffrey I'm not satisfied with Hog abrasives either and they won't be getting anymore of my abrasive orders. First off I made the order using a credit card, 3 or 4 days later I received a phone call telling me they would not honor the web site prices, dumb me ordered anyway. After almost 2 weeks and no belts delivered yet, I called them to ask if there was a problem, No I was told, the belts were shipped on x day which was over a week from the time I talked to them on the phone, so delievry time was over 2 weeks. Usually I get my orders with in 4 days after the final approval, if ones needed. Once I did receive the belts and started using the 320 J flexs I had ordered, they were very stiff and not anything like I had hoped for, absolutely worthless for shaping hard to reach places, and that was my only reason for ordering them. So I'm back to looking for another abrasive supplier.

Bill

I second Don's reference to Pop's. I've ordered from a bunch of places, and he's been the best so far... and FAST! His cheap Schroeder belts seem to work pretty well on the 1095 I use.

I think Pop's is great. He doesn't list some of what I use though.

I have been buying the Trizact CFs and the Norton Blaze belts from Trugrit lately as they have the best prices of the sites that list them.

I just tried Supergrit for El Cheapo AlO belts and got good products back-50 grit X wt and 120 J wt. each at reasonable prices-$1.60 and $1.80 each when buying 10. I have only used a couple, but they seem as good as other AlO belts. Service was great, they sent them USPS Priority as the default shipping and I had them 2 days later. I will use them again. They are more expensive for the high end belts, though.
