Cheap Choppers?

Since the government won't subsidize my knife needs ;):D with a blade stimulus package, I can't afford a Busse Fusion Battle Mistress. I know, cry me a river.
So in the same vein as our cheap knife thread, who wants/has/needs cheap choppers. I'm talking big knives with a little price tag. What's out there?

I'm looking at the Becker BK9, and wishing they'd bring back the Brute.

Yeah the BK9 is a good option. The Kabar Large Heavy Bowie is good also. An Ontario 12" machete would be even cheaper.

Reflections of Asia has killer bolos on the cheap. HI khuks can be had cheaply if you can shark a blem.

I used to have a Cold Steel LTC kukri. It chopped amazingly well for it's weight and thickness (1/8"), much better than a straight edged machete. I think this is due in part to the deep curve of the belly (allowing it less resistance upon meeting the wood) as well as the weight forward balance of the blade.

Now Cold Steel no longer sells the LTC, but they do sell the kukri machete which I believe has the same blade, and just a hard plastic handle instead of a soft rubber handle.

You could also check out the Ontario RD 9 :

I'll beat my usual drum and say "anything Condor."
High quality+big blade+low price=high satisfaction. :D
Imacasa's (Condor's parent company) are now available to use northern folks too, now that Machete Specialist started carrying them. I've been looking for about a year now. :p

I know I'm an addict, but it's just too much fun. :o

The Ka-Bar "Cutlass Machete" is a wonderful chopper, especially considering its price.

It was my main chopper before I got my Battle Mistresses, and I have always been delighted by its performance. I can't say enough good things about the Cutlass Machete, it's one of my favorite knives.

The BK9 came to mind immediately upon reading the title of this thread.

The KABAR large bowie would also be a great choice at low cost (mine impressed me well beyond the sticker price would imply). I actually carry the BK9 in place of this knife now, though.

Has anyone checked out Marble's new line of choppers ??

They run about $20 with sheath, not counting s&h...

+1 on the Cutlass

Ranger RD-9 also comes to mind. RTAKII, Ontario SP-8... etc etc

And +1 on the Marbles, just got a Bolo in and love it!

Yep, got one of those too, it performs way above it's price. The Khukri is also amazing, and the large bowie is really good as well, so I hear.
These Kabars are one of the better deals on the market.

What about the Kershaw Outcast? I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet..

Neat knife, but I always wondered why they chose to make it out of D2.

D2 is one of my all-time favorite blade steels, but I was under the impression it wasn't a suitable material for a chopper or long-bladed knife. I haven't heard about anyone breaking their Outcasts, so they must be working out fine.

I forgot the Outcast! The trouble with those is that some come with a very bad edge-by bad I mean way too thick.

I have personally spent more than an hour making an Outcast cut well, but I've also spent five minutes on one and it came out awesome (both came to me as from the factory).

The one that I had the privilege of playing with (the owner told me to go wild) held up great, and it was still shaving sharp when the other blades I was chopping with were barely passing the finger nail test (though they all continued to chop great).
