Cheap Choppers?

Why not get a browning Crowell/Barker competition knife. I got mine for right around $100. It came with a super sharp convex edge and a nice leather sheath. I totally love mine, well worth the money and it looks alot classier than say a BK9.

That is one hell of a knife for the money. I have one and beat the heck out of it. Great knife.

Kabar...Large Bowie..TOUGH as Nails.

Since the Marbles machetes came up a couple times, I thought I would mention that they are being made by the same company as Condor Tools. They should be pretty nice, a little more than a tram, but many, including our own Joezilla, say they are worth every penny.

mymindisamob - +1 on the KaBar Large Heavy Bowie. I've got a new one that I'm never going to use. If you're hurtin on cash, I could send it to you to try out. If you like it, you can keep it. Email me at DunnzoBrah@live.com if you're interested. I only ask that you post some using pics when you get it!

That is a very kind offer, Thank You! I am probably going to pick a few of these suggestions and try them out as I am not destitute. My knife budget whining is in jest generally. I have used and absolutely love the Busse CGFBM, but would like to extend my experience before commiting to more INFI. I like cheap knives too.;)
Again, Thanks for the very generous offer. You should do some chopping though.......... and post pics.;)

I have yet to do any damage chopping with it, and for $25, I'm not too worried about damaging it. (if you want slightly bigger, the Bushman Bowie can be bought for about the same $$ )

Just sayin.....

I recently built around 600 feet of handrails out of 3 to 4 inch golden bamboo.
Fishmouthed posts and all.
16 inch Corneta Bolo. $14 with a handmade leather sheath.;)

The knife alone lacks sufficient mass to be a true chopper. Mount an extended handle on it using the handle socket, though, and you're talking.

I have a kukri and a modified Ontario 12 inch that I modified. I will take the kukri every time for hard use. Also chop around some with an older Western 49 bowie.

I forgot the Outcast! The trouble with those is that some come with a very bad edge-by bad I mean way too thick.

I have personally spent more than an hour making an Outcast cut well, but I've also spent five minutes on one and it came out awesome (both came to me as from the factory).

The one that I had the privilege of playing with (the owner told me to go wild) held up great, and it was still shaving sharp when the other blades I was chopping with were barely passing the finger nail test (though they all continued to chop great).

Siguy,

I want to improve the performance of my Outcast. Given your experience, what edge profile do you recommend? I was thinking about convexing the edge.
