Cheap knives that continue to beat out more expensive knives for pocket time.

I realize the was a similar thread last week but it was infact only similar, this is a different topic...

Do you have any knives that are for a specific purpose (even if that use is just general use/EDC) which you continue to use a cheaper/older knife of yours even tho you've bought newer, higher value knives for that propose?

The one that's most surprising to me is my Kershaw Shallot, it was given to me and after replacing some woren out of spec parts (and waving it) I absolutely love it. I carry it in my back left pocket as an SD knife and while I have several other knives for the same purpose, the most expensive being my Spyderco Chokwe, I almost exclusively carry the Shallot. I just love the knife, its so thin and isnt a PITA (literally) like the much wider Chokwe is or the other few knives that I also purchased for that use (including a spyderco Pacific salt I actually sold because I liked the shallot so much).

Have you ever found a knife you just can't replace, even with knives that cost much more, that you should like more? The funniest part to me is the Shallot was never even on my radar, let alone my "list", before I received it I didn't even know about it so that it continually beats out the knife I bought specifically as a replacement for it really says alot about it. Should I like the 3x more expensive spyderco better than the shallot? Yes I should, that's why I bought it afterall, I wanted the spyderco for a long time, I budgeted for it, saved up and bought it but after getting it I found I like the shallot more.

If you want to share let us know the cheaper knife, the more expensive knives it continues to beat out of your pocket and the reasons you like it so much more.

Edited to clear up exactly what I was asking...
Do you own any cheaper/lower end knives which you continue to prefer over a more expensive/ higher end knife you bought specifically to replace said cheaper knife?

This stays in my pocket ever since I got it....inexpensive, very well built, and tough as nails.

This will stay in my safe...over 4 times the cost of the above, very well built, and tough as nails.

I use my CS medium clip point Voyager a LOT doing yard work. Just 100% abusive stuff like digging holes, chiseling through roots of old long dead plants and shrubs, prying old pvc and metal pipe out of the clay that is our soil enough to get a hand hold.

Needs a serious touch up after every session, but it's my dirty little go-to. I'll use some of my other nicer knives for some of the stuff, but if I don't want to be bothered with grabbing the trowel and hatchet...

The one that keeps ending up in my pocket — along with a floating cast of other faves-du-jour — is the lowly Vic Classic. (But not always the same Classic: I have them in red, black, green, and silver alox. Whim drives the choice.)

I don't have any cheap knives. The one time I did try one, a CRKT M16 variant, I lost it in a round-open-top file when I realized it would not hold an edge for s--t. I've never bothered to buy another cheap knife since, and CRKT's are El Cheapo specials. Never again.

My most regular edc is an almost 20 year old Spyderco Military. Done a lot of what the guy above me posted he does. it still looks good today. No worse for the wear.

I use my Opinel #9 in a similar fashion. The little Micra gets rid of the need for carrying a bigger, heavier and more expensive multi-tool for most EDC tasks. Combined, I can take on most things I encounter.

Specific purposes? Yes, I keep a nice folder for light tasks and a Leatherman for everything else.

I have a modified with wood scales usa schrade 108ot that keeps finding its way into my pocket, i think becuase it just kinda disappears into the change pocket and have to feel for it to make sure its still there.

Mine is the Shallot as well, It is a tough knife with good steel for really cheap. I never go anywhere without it

It is a little more warn now :D

My Kershaw Thermite (40$) I picked up hasnt left my pocket since I got it. There is just something about this knife that i love. I know the steel isnt great and that it was made in China, both things i mostly look down on. But every morning find myself putting it into my pocket over 60+ USA made Kershaws and my 13 ZTs.

I carry my Adamas all the time.
But a couple of days ago, I realized I carried a CASE Sodbuster Jr for 2 weeks.
Price gives me pride of ownership, but the things youre cutting dont care if it was $5 or $500

I carry my "entry level" Kershaws (and similar knives) way more than my CRKs, Strider, spendy ZT's, etc. The $22 stuff just makes me happier to carry, use and play with. Part of that too may be that I just have a hard time beating up a $450 knife when I can beat up a Kershaw Tremor instead. I also like to switch up my EDC pretty frequently, and that's a lot easier to do when you have a bunch of $20 knives. Cheap and spendy all cut stuff essentially the same, but the entry level stuff just floats my boat more than the titanium and the tiger stripes. Given the choice, I'd rather be a hard core CRK collector and user. The passion those guys have for their toys is pretty neat. Its just not my thing.

Half and half for me. I typically carry two knives - a Cold Steel Tuff Lite and either my ZT 0550BLK or Gayle Bradley. Just got around to selling everything else because they just weren't seeing pocket time. If I don't have confidence in a knife, I won't carry it. The three knives I currently have (Emerson Mini CQC-15 should arrive today, too, so that'll definitely make it in to the rotation) just ooze capability. Solid as a rock, good steel, comfortable, good blade shapes, easy to maintain a good edge, they look good... Hard to beat, for my purposes.

I'm with supernoodle...it's reallllly hard to beat a Tremor. It's so good for the price you wonder why it doesn't cost what a Resilience does.

I really like the Cold Steel Pocket Bushman too.

Spyderco Military.. Haven't found anything in production that comes close (large, light folder)

Looks great! Mine's a BLK one too, it looks a little weird seeing one without a wave now that I'm so use to mine. Is that grip tape? The pattern you cutout is very blur like, it looks good too.
