Cheaper Busse Knives

Apologies if this thread has been done already, I did a quick search but it came up blank.

I have had my eye on a Busse knife for a while now. Unfortunately some of those $500-$3000 models are so far out of my price range it's not even funny. I will most likely be selling off my Umnumzaan or Strider to have to spending cash towards a Busse knife.

My big question is, what are some of the "cheaper" Busse knives? I would like to try and keep my budget below the $500 mark... users are obviously fine, because I intend to use this knife ALL the time.

Something smaller than 5" is really what I am looking for. This will fall right into my heavy work EDC rotation. Normally my "heavy" work knives are between 3"-4 1/2" long.

Any suggestions?

This is one of the knives I am thinking about... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Rodent-Solution-Custom-Shop-Satin-Tan-Canvas

Thanks!

Under $500 for a blade that size?

Hell man, you have lot of options. Basic 4, Game Warden, Active Duty, Meaner Street, SAR 5, SAR 3, Magnum Bear Cub, HACK Warden, maybe a Badger Attack Ergo, Basic 3, etc......... Under $500 for a good every day user is pretty easy to accomplish.

Just to be sure, you are talking about blade size right? Or overall length?

Well... if it doesn't have to have the Busse logo, the Scrap Yard Scrapper 5 LE is INFI and is one of the few knives I have had for well over a year and will probably never part with.

The answer is simple, you don't need to do nothing and you will achieve zero..by spending ZERO!

Like M67 said, there are plenty of options under $500, keep your eye on the exchange and you'll be sure to find something soon.

Perfect, this is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't know any of the actual model names to be paying attention for. Also, yes I was talking about blade length!

I like the CABS and the HOG MUK also
they may be over $300 though

Might be harder to find, but you could also look for Scrapyard War Dog or Scrapper 5 LE, as both of those are in Busse's INFI and have wonderful Res C handles. both should be in the $200-300 range too.

$300 is still pretty do-able, the anorexic boss streets were $297 plus shipping when you could get them direct. The Basic 4s are going for around $280 now, combat grade Game Wardens and Active Duties are findable at $300 or less. SAR 5, Magnum Bear Cub, probably a Sus Scrofa.

Swamp Rats and Scrap Yards are under $300 too. Hairy Carries, Rodent Solutions, Rodent 4s, SS4s, Scrapper 5s, etc.

Also, I meant to type $300 max, not $500. Had a small brain fart for a moment.

What the heck kind of answer was that???

As to the Swamp Rat Rodent Solution you asked about, it is a GREAT model. Though it is a Bussekin blade, not a straight up Busse. That one, in particular, is a pretty rare example likely offered at a show like the recent one at Knob Creek. It is made from Swamp Rat's (Busse's) proprietary SR-101 (a 52100 carbon steel with Busse's heat treat). It will rust if not taken care of properly, just like any carbon steel blade would. Busse's INFI, while not technically stainless steel, is pretty stainless.

The RS is a fantastic blade! However, for your use, I would recommend a regular "combat grade" model from the company store for ~$120.

Dylan,
You might consider the Busse Kin option. The perfect fit to your description is a Swam Rat offering the Rodent 4 at just over $100. Lots of folks here will confirm its' qualities. Same goes for HRLM. At slightly bigger size there's RMD from the Swamp or 5-11 from Scrap Yard. Aside from HRLM the rest is current offering from company stores

Take your time to identify two or three models you are seriously interested in. Then give the Busse shop a call or drop them an email if they have blanks available and ask for a quotation. If this price exceeds your budget move on to the exchange and pull the trigger on a used model. Newbies are often not aware that you can still order directly from Busse. Not all models, not always - but give it a shot! I often do that because used INFI doesn't trade that much cheaper than unused INFI. Often it's even the other way round...

well, this guy is asking "which ferrari's is the Cheapest?" and everyone answered...get the lamborghini because is the same thing. What da heck:D
For mine first Busse, It will Worry me more about edge cutting geometry that I should get on the knife, than the price itself:D

Basic 4 seems like a great choice for a user that size. Sent you a VM in case your interested in others.

i was going to say swamp rat as well. I got a hairy carry on a trade and really liked it, but I am weird and sold it. I have a couple of swamp rat customs on order, cant wait. My TGLB should be here any day. and I have a MBC on order. I am excited. There are Busse out there for that price. It wont be a chopper, but a nice field knife i am sure. I backed out on the basic 4 like an idiot and that was well within your budget. Two things about Busse apparently, alcohol and patience, im not into either, maybe thats why i might be more of a rat.
