Cheapest knife that you can rely on

They look similar but are imported from Brazil. I’d rather buy American. Especially at the same price point.

Dig a little deeper. I found the same product sold as Tramontina yet marked as Dexter. They’re likely all made in Brazil and rebranded for sale in other international markets.

For real work, one of the Moras. For everyday tasks, pretty much any medium sized SAK. There are literally hundreds of possible answers.

IDK. One is clearly marked made in USA the other marked made in Brazil. I’ll take it at face value. Best I can do is buy the one that says USA.

Not the place to beat this horse anyway. I’m sorry I brought it up. I’m sure the Tramontinas are good knives too

I have been floored by the level of performance I have gotten out of my Mora Robust. By even Mora standards, which are high, this little knife is a beast of a beater.

Most of my use of knives is at work and the least expensive knife that I bring to work is a Spyderco Pacific Salt Folder which I use around the boats and in the shop. When I am diving on the Submarine I usually have a fixed blade Scubapro knife or a Randall model 16 and a Spyderco Autonomy. In the water my ass is on the line and I am not relying on some cheap POS.

I constantly use a Carbon steel Mora Companion and an Ontario 18" machete around the farm. Pretty much does everything I need short of needing an axe or saw.

Rough Rider slipjoints that range in price from under $8, to $19.95, a Marbles MR278 "Demo" knife that cost right at $6.
For fixed blades, Mora Number 1 (carbon steel blade) also Green River and Old Hickory 1800's style carbon steel knives.

As my Great Grandfather (1892-1974) used to tell me: "You don't need to spend a lot to get a lot." and "Why pay a premium for a name? A Hudson, Nash or Studebaker" (later Rambler and AMC) "will get me from here to there just as good as a Cadillac, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford, or Chevrolet, and last just as long."

Speaking of Studebakers, an old riding buddy came by on Sunday to sit in the sun and burn a cigar He can’t ride his bikes any more and has the last one for sale. He has realized he has too much money to spend in the time he has left, so he is having a little fun buying cars.

This is a $3 knife. I added the single finger groove. It is scary sharp, indestructible, and dishwasher safe.

I bought a case of them. Figuring they were disposable. Boy was I wrong.

The first one still looks brand new. It has opened a thousand boxes then broken them down for recycling. Not just the tape but cut the cardboard into pieces. It’s gone through the dishwasher at least twice a week for 2 years. Never been sharpened and still cuts a tomato paper thin.

Its part of Dexter Russels sani safe line. It is absolutely rock solid dependable. Every kitchen, tackle box, first aid kit, tool kit, survival kit, boat, car, truck etc. should have one of these in it.

I might have to pick up a few of these. Thanks!

For me it's a 3 way tie. No surprises either.
Mora Companion- I got it for about 12 bucks. You just can't beat that value.
The other 2 are folders. Same brand, different models.
Ontario RAT1
Ontario Utilitac II
I paid around $25 for each, and have no problem using them hard. Especially the beastly Utilitac.

If it’s marked USA then that settles it. Good to know.

Amen to this brother. The Kabar Dozier has continued to eliminate all sorts of knives that I've had in my possession. Delicas, Mini Griptilians, 940s, all sorts of knives have fallen victim to my, "Are you really better than the Dozier?" question.
The Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter is the real deal in this category. They can be relied on to take any beating you give a value folder.

Looking at the title of this thread, I flashed back to a chili contest I used to put on. There were four categories:

Best chili.
Cheapest chili.
Best cheap chili.
Cheapest good chili.
