I'm a man of little means, but I likes me some knives. I managed to score a GEC Barlow from a retailer last year, and picked up a #92 with stag handles I like (they turned out to be cracked, but such is life with stag).

Anyway, I wanted a box to store them in, and I found a shop out of Oregon that'll make custom wooden boxes from scratch for pretty much peanuts. (Non BF dealer reference removed)

I sketched up a drawing of what I wanted and sent it over to him. The box is western cedar, and a little oversized in case I end up with buttons or a larger model to store, and so I could fit my pocket slip. I asked for the dividers on the bottom to be removable so I could line the box with VCI paper.

I had him leave it unfinished, I plan to finish the outside with some boiled linseed oil. Anyway, let me know what you think!

Very nicely done. I've always wanted a more traditional storage box for my daily users but a pelican case will have to make do for now.

Thanks! I had an underwater kinetics box that I was using, but I wanted something a little more traditional. I'm still toying with the idea of crumpled VCI paper to keep them from sliding around lengthwise.

Problem is now my wife wants custom boxes for her organization purposes. Ah well, fair is fair I suppose.

Looks great. Felt or Mohair would also be good for lining the bottom, and traditional, too. :)

Really nice. Storage is an important topic. I much prefer wood but I know there is a fair bit of debate about what a unit should be made of. Am always pleased to read about what different members think in that regard.

I'd run it over and over in my head, as I tend to do. I decided against plastics, and I'd seen what using the wrong foam can do to carbon steel at work. Wood probably isn't the best material out there, but I feel like this will at least let the knives breath a little, and it still looks nice if I want to leave it open. Plus, I'll have the added benefit of a cedar scented sock drawer now. ;)

That is pretty nice Wilted Kilt .
Looks like you had it made for : An EDC and a daily change !!! Makes since to me !!!
Thanks for showing it.

Very nice box! I've got to get something better than the 0.5"x12"x3' board that I'm using now.
