Check out my new storage box!

Well said. I'm not sure how much good it's doing me as a liner though. I believe S&W pistols come wrapped in VCI paper.

I use VCI too but I use a wick that I keep impregnated with VCI oil. I keep the saturated wick in the same case with the knives. I do think it's good stuff but I can't really prove it conclusively. I have some carbon blade knives that I've kept stored for about 9 years using VCI and not so much as a pepper spot on them. But I also use Renaissance Wax in addition to the VCI.

The knives are still in pristine condition but how do I really know that they wouldn't be without one or the other, or even both. I do believe in VCI technology and I'll keep using it for peace of mind but I can't prove a thing. :)

Way nicer than the Tackle box I'm using.

Seconded but don't let SWMBO see it -I'd need a bout 10 of them.
As for lining-I use cut up cotton work shirts that are "retired"- also charity shops are a great source of clothes that can be cut up for this purpose for those on a budget.
cheers.

Yeah, I've got some time before I have that problem. I'd probably go back to the maker and get a taller one made with a lift out tray if he's still making boxes when the time comes.

Is it western red cedar , eastern white, or Alaskan yellow cedar?
Thanks , Neal70
Ps I'm curious because the properties of the three kinds of wood are different. Your comment about smell has me thinking western red

He called it "western cedar", so I suppose western red cedar.

Makes sense given the makers location, I'm a little colorblind so it was hard to tell from the pictures.
Thanks, Neal

Agreed, very nice! I use a Haverty Flatware Set Box that they lined with silver tarnish preventing cloth. It holds a bunch, with my Trads being held in the knife slots of the lid and moderns in the bottom. I did tear out the fork/spoon holding bar from the bottom section.

I keep a big box of rechargeable desiccant in my knife storage room and routinely bath the carbon pieces in mineral oil or Rust Free from AGR...depending on their scale material.

A flatware box is a good idea, I considered that as well. I really wanted a Gerstner & Sons tool box, but I couldn't justify the cost and people have mixed results with the knockoffs, which still aren't super cheap.

I can't bring myself to buy a Gerstner and Sons either. For that money I can get a nice lockable glass display table or a fine safe.

Looks great. Can you show a picture when you 've finished the oiling, please?

Resurrection of the thread!

Here it is all oiled up. I forgot to post this earlier...

Hmmm... the second picture of the closed box isn't working...
