Check out the new album of Tweener and new Classics Porn

Tweeners look great, but I've got my eyes on that Machax. Awesome post, E, thanks for sharing!

Am I correct in the Machax will be made in the US?

What's the purpose of the extended pommel on the Machax?

Doc

Driving nails, smashing zombie skulls, knocking doors really forcefully, cracking walnuts?
Wonderful pieces of steel. I'd be interested in when the Patrol Machete will be available, and how the spine thickness will be. 3/16" or 1/4"?

Hey Everybody.....

I should have known you all would want specs and delivery dates.....

The two shorter Tweeners are about 4.25 and the Fisk comes in at 5.5in.- they will be .165 thick.....Orders will be taken at SHOT in january for sure......As for the Patrol Machete and Brute, I will know more after BLADE Show next month.....

All Best....

Ethan If I remember when you first went to Ka Bar you said when the question of the BK 6 came up that Ka Bar did not have the capacity to make that long a blade.
Has that changed or will the blade be made by someone else or Offshore (China)
Thanks

Survival, it's being made off-shore, in Taiwan or China I believe. Moose did a post on it.
And now I can't wait to hear what comes out of blade show next month, ethan. Wish I was going.

Blade is gonna be interesting for sure. I can't wait.

Told ya'll you'd love those tweeners. :D

Is the drop point tweener the same knife as the mini-campanion? Its hard to tell from those 2 photos.

Anyone know the approximate blade dimensions of it or them?

Lastly, from those that own and know, is the BK1 Brute an even better chopper than the BK9, or was the BK9 the improved version?

two of everything for me, as usual :)

that camp tweener is so awesome, it's going to live on the sheath with the machax, i suspect :) Blade Show 2009 i casually mentioned to old Ethan there that a steak knife sized Magnum Camp would be the shizznit. apparently Jerry Fisk nearby agreed. hah, i'm delighted! i should get six of those just for the cutlery drawer and throw out my steak knife. HELL - i should bring one of those to my favorite steak house.

the FULL SIZE magnum camp will then get the Necker or Eskabar as its travel buddy.

mmm, mini Campanion. who knew?

and now i'm going to have to figure out how to acquire one of those edge pro systems. getting to the point where it's not worth honing knives by hand anymore... also a [slack] belt grinder, cuz i do like my convex on my axes and khukris and choppers. i sure do. also, doing that by hand? quite the chore. i do like my spydero ceramic stones, and sharpmaker, and glass plate and sandpaper, but well, i also am a lazy ass lately and just want it done. the cheap kitchen knives get one of those motorized dealios (seems i've got 3-4 of those, nobody likes them - so i get them).

yar. new stuff. bit of waiting time for some of this.

and like Noah's Ark (it's raining HARD today), they shall march aboard my pirate ark (yarrr matey) two by two (or five by five good buddy)

Never owned a Brute, so I may not qualify as being in the know, but looking at the specs I see that the BK-01 and BK-09 are (or at least were) fairly similar in size and weight. There was about 4 oz. more weight behind the Brute. That, combined with the blade geometry differences would mean to me that one could expect the Brute to be a slightly better chopper.

That said, I know from personal experience that the blade and handle shape of the Machax is likely to blow away the 9 in a chopping contest. I'm comparing the relative shape, weight, blade thickness and length to the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri, which I've owned for the last 2+ years, and talking strictly chopping, it's better for that task than a 9 by a significant margin. Now, the original Machax is thinner and lighter (by 3 oz.) than the Gurkha, and the forward/down sweep shape is not identical, but assuming whatever changes end up in the new Machax don't stray far from the differences already noted, or go towards making it a little heavier, I think the Machax is going to be the Becker line's #1 chopper when it comes out.

Now, all that said, the 9 is still my all-around, go-to camp knife. It is much easier to baton with than the Gurkha, as well as draw-cutting, fuzz-stick-making etc. As awesome as a chopper as the Gurkha is, it's kind of a one trick pony for the outdoorsman. As a weapon, I suppose, it's much more than that, which is where it got its name from, but I'm not a fighter at all and prefer things that go BANG! if I was ever forced to become one, so how good a weapon it is doesn't matter a wit to me.

In short, I will definitely get a Machax and a Brute, and may even find that I have no more need or use for the Gurkha and sell it. But likely as not, the 9 will remain my go-to blade for any serious outdoors adventures, and the Machax and Brute will tag along when it's a drive-to camp site or for use in the yard or whatever.

Mr. Becker,
Thankyou for the pics.
Glad to hear Brute and Patrol machete will be available, sorry to hear not U.S. made. It will not stop me from buying depending on price.
Machax and drop point tweener are waiting to be ordered.

The edge geometry is not as good as the BK9, the 9 is thinner, and wider, bites deeper. The BK1 tends not to bite as deep, works better for clubbin' stuff. The flat spot on the spine is perfect for splittin' stuff. I tried all of them, the RBK, the BK9 then the Machax were my pics for top 3. The BK6 suffered from the same problem, a thicker edge. Some folks may argue, but that's my opinion.

Here's the write up.

Ok Ethan, just tell me what it's going to cost to buy all the new ones together. Might as well get it over with all at once. I haven't bought any 4"-5" fixed blades other a custom by Rehrer since I first learned of the Tweeners. It will be WELL worth the wait.

Hey Cramsey.....

Nobody knows at this point what they are gonna cost....Whatever pricing we got from Taiwan is based on hollow grinds and the pricing on the Tweeners and the Machax are still undetermined as far as I know.......I was told some time ago that they are gonna be lower than the big guys.....You now know what I know......

All Best....

This is what I have been waiting for. 4.25 is about right. .165 is great for a knife this size. Thanks for the info and pictures.

Thank you very much for the pictures, they are so sweet. I'm starting to get that feeling like I did as a youngster when I knew that xmas was coming soon.
