Check out this wack robotic knife sharpener!

your di- erm
Nope not mine , but I'd stick yours in there ...wait ...nope not touching that either ! :p

Thanks though for the heads up  , so to speak .:)

I don't go out to shop much anymore , but next time I'm in an ACE Hardware, I'll look-see if they got Mr Sharpening Roboto .

So many people now have zero sharpening skills , sadly enough , so I'm not totally amazed that this product exists to fill this need .

$4 it’s a little steep in my opinion. I like sharpening though so maybe I’m a little biased. I’d be curious to watch somebody else get theirs sharpened and stand there with a piece of paper lol
I'd maybe pay the $4 , if this thing could do a great job on Cold Steel serrations ...but wait , nope . It don't do no freaking serrations !

Might just be the camera playing tricks, but it appears to have put a big recurve on the heal-end of the blade, which will make it useless for rocking.

Mecha Mecha , thanks a million for that video! Great review, too! No kidding, I'm being serious. That machine certainly has a place in my toolbox now.

Think about it; if it will sharpen a blade up to a foot long and 3 inches across, that covers a lot of territory.

Next time I am asked to "fix" a large kitchen knife, sharpen a medium sized Becker, a Kabar or one of their cousins, I can tell them to head down to the local ACE and have it done right there on the spot for $4.

Some of the knives I have fixed over the years for my bonehead friends I would pay 2-3 times the $4 just to get out of it. I don't mind fixing my own blades when I have screwed them up myself because I know how I did it. I don't like fixing or sharpening other people's blades.

Again, being completely serious.... THANKS!

I see that recurve too. Maybe the knife started out like that a little and the machine exacerbated it?

We have two Ace Hardwares in town. I checked one of them on my lunch break today but they don't have this contraption at that store. The associate never heard of it. I doubt if the other Ace in town has one either.

That's too bad. I would have tried it out in a heartbeat just out of sheer curiosity.

I was actually surprised how "slow" the process is. I mean, the sharpening part is very quick but there is a lot of fiddling around (for 9 passes if I did count well). I believe I am not that much slower per knife with my KO Worksharp on total time (4 to 6 passes on five successive grits. The robot does only 3 grits. Ha !). 2 to 3 $ for a 4" to 8" knife. Honing that is... If someone brings me a knife dulled on concrete he will pay the 4 $, too (or even 5 $). And, at that, the sharpening started with the blade a bit offset to the right and it left out consistently 1/4" of the heel. Not a big deal on a cheap clunker, for sure.

While at Ace Hardware today, I saw a knife sharpener vending machine, sort of like a key making machine. For $4 it will supposedly sharpen your knife!

Unfortunately, it's only for steel knives, or I would have tried it out on my titanium alloy edc kiridashi. It has a vacuum dust collector, so there's a chance that putting in a ti knife might cause the "flaming shop-vac" effect that some people run into when using normal dust collectors to clear titanium grinder dust. I don't want to be responsible for burning down my local Ace.

I might go back with a steel knife and get some video of the contraption in action, and report back!

What do you say? Would you stick your di- erm, stick your knife in this thing? 😀😬

I have one at my local ACE Hardware, too. I was curious so I brought a couple Henkels Pro S kitchen knives and let the machine have a go. It's quick. But it does a nice job. Even grind, and quite sharp. Apparently the machine was designed by a former Tesla engineer, I was told.
