I'm a big fan of checkering but do not own any checkered knives sadly. I've seen some incredible ones that's been done by hand at the California Custom Knife Show and they are true functional art pieces. The older One Piece Knives by Chris Reeve Knives have amazing checkering and I'd love to add one of those to my collection one day. Unlike the rarity of the GEC checkered knives the OPK's do pop up for sale

I agree with absolutely everyone here!! Checkering is AWESOME !
Glad to see that Stockman surface Jeff, always wondered what happened with that one - it looks factory but Never seen another!

Great thread Charlie- I need to curb the enthusiasm felt when looking at this older Ivory or Bone examples, just fantastic stuff. 👍👍

I'm glad you brought this subject to life.
Aesthetically, it enriches the design of a knife. Practicality wise, it creates a secure grip.
I can now appreciate a cutlers' challenge. Here are two new creations.20241209_142054.jpg

Glad you brought Cosimo's creations over, Bob!! They are beautiful; and they spurred me on to start this thread!!

It’s very rare I’ll admit to something beating a lamb but that wharny! 😍😍😍
I agree!! Hot darn!

I love checkering, myself. I am however picky. The only checkered knife I have is a more “modern” linerlock so I’m hesitant to show it here.

These photos are all absolutely awesome! Keep ‘em coming!
