Check This Out!!!

Checkered ebony. This one in the planning stages was slated for checkered buffalo horn but switched to some really nice John Lloyd supplied ebony.

I almost posted this earlier today. I think I saw that one at the Blade Show. I think you made this one shortly after my farmers jack.

Checkering provides the best grip and the hand cut variety is artful craftsmanship at its best. Here are the two that I have, both production knives with pressed checkering.
The lower right one of these Rough Riders has nicely checkered bone handles and the trick locking main leaf blade (depress the coping secondary to release the lock).

This Craftsman large stockman has checkered wood covers, nice and grippy!

I do not care for the RRs. I do however think that Craftsman is a beauty. Thanks for sharing.

Another member suggested this should be included in the checkering thread as it was a substitute for checkering, which I could not find someone to do on this knife. The stippling is well done and works: a much better grip.

Beautiful patina.

Wonderful thread with photos of so many desirable knives!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
I've loved the feel of the few checkered knives I've handled, and I like the looks of the checkering on every knife I've seen in this thread, including the Alox SAKs. I think the tactile sensation of Alox SAKs is a major reason I'm so attracted to that particular type of knife.

At the moment, I can think of only 3 knives I've owned with checkered bone handles, all Rough Riders.
I picked up this RR copperhead at the first gun & knife show I attended (but I eventually put it in a GAW):

This checkered RR canoe was a generous gift (thanks, Will):

This RR Armor Hide canoe appears to be checkered with an unusual pattern, but I'm not sure if the covers are bone or synthetic:
