Chicago Knife Works Shipping Charges - Possible Fr&$#?

That's the ratio that I mean but what I've actually noticed is items that the manufacturer lists as .04lbs, they rate at 3lbs and charge shipping based on that 3lb number. And when I pointed it out, they corrected it but looking around, it's not a fluke.
What you are seeing is the difference between the actual weight of the knife and the shipping weight which is the knife plus the box, plus the bubble wrap, and so on. Move along, nothing to see here.

Where you shop is your choice. CKW often has the lowest prices on knives, likely they make up for that in shipping.

Fraud Charges ???
If they have shipping and handling in the fine print I think you will be out of luck .

I’ve had experiences with companies in the past that play the shipping charge game
I would just look around for a store that you feel is reasonable or look for the ones with free shipping
I’ve paid 15-20 bucks for shipping to have something that weighs a few ounces sent el cheapo slow mail in a tiny bubble envelope. So, I’m sure it’s happened to everyone at some point

Your wishful thinking contradicts both what CKW said (as I said above, they admitted an "error") and also what the manufacturer said. Also, bubble wrap on a .04oz item does not weigh .96lbs. So you're just making stuff up.

Well, still no one has answered my question but this is useful information. Maybe this is a common thing that I have only noticed here and so I think it's unusual. Plus, the shipping costs are reasonable in an absolutely sense.

But this isn't enough information to know if we're talking about the same thing.

I'm going to unfollow this thread. I'm convinced the only question anyone on this forum can answer is "should I buy X knife" and the answer is always "yes."

As long the shipping charge is listed clearly on the order before the buyer hits the button, there can be no fraud. They saw the amount and ordered anyway, right? We may question how much they charge for shipping, but ultimately it’s up to us to agree to it or not.

Many retailers charge what I consider inflated rates to ship. I tend not to buy from them.

Many Ebay sellers especially play the high shipping game, so if an item is returned, they refund the purchase price but not the shipping fees, so they get to keep a big chunk of money anyway. I never buy from them.

I really dont get what you want anyone to say here. If you aren't happy with a price/shipping price just don’t hit the send it button. Yes, everyone everywhere on earth has seen this before. If you do not like a price you just dont buy.

That means that you, like everyone else apparently, didn't read my post. I very clearly asked:

"Has anyone else had this experience? What is the stated shipping weight of the items you ordered, vs. the real or vendors' listed weight? What was the shipping charge vs real postage?"

That was the question I was asking for answers to. I didn't ask for opinions or observations or anything else.

Is this forum really so full of useless old men that they just talk nonsense no one wil listen to them in person.

So, no, I have not had that experience with Chicago Knife Works. The last order I placed, in November 2024, had free shipping and the price was still less than other vendors. The two orders I placed in 2021 also had free shipping and the prices were significantly lower than other vendors.

On the other hand, I have ordered smaller items from other vendors where I did not meet the free shipping cutoff, and incurred shipping and handling fees that some might consider high - an $8.95 charge for a $15.99 item, for example. Considering the cost of a box, packing materials and time to prepare the shipment, that isn't out of line in my opinion. It's just business.

Here is what I found. Seems like a competitive price, although I did not actually order the knife. It claims the knife to be under a pound, but if a flat rate box is used, the shipping cost seems to align.

😂 ^

I answered ya twice. yes seen weight listed that are heavier than actual shipped. doesn't matter to me as the ship pricing wasn't out of line.
