I was wondering if anyone has any experience buying from Chicago Knife Works? I would like to order several knives and I see that they seem to have the best prices around, but also rather high shipping costs. Any bad experiences with them?

Oh, you mean the Chicago Knife Works that's in Skokie (LOL)? No, never ordered from them.

That's so dishonest of them. Almost like a company calling themselves Chris Reeve Knives when they're not owned or made by or having anything to do with Chris Reeve.

;)
Not since Mr. Reeve retired, sold the company, or whatever the situation was, anyway.

Aren't they still making his designs?

I just placed an order with then last nite so we’ll see...

Skokie is an exurb of Chicago. Chicago Transit Authority provides public transportation there. Their street numbers are a continuation of the City of Chicago’s. Perfectly acceptable to use “Chicago” in the name.

People from Chicago would beg to differ, hence my post;) There is a stereotype around here of people in the suburbs calling their home “Chicago”. It’s a Chicago thing, you wouldn’t understand :D

A few years ago I placed a couple orders with them. Once through Amazon and once on their site.
Got both orders just fine, but I remember that I had some sort of headache with the direct order. Can't remember what but it was enough to go elsewhere.
It wasn't about money and the order was fine though.

They used to be located in Chicago, but relocated. Not sure why..

I used to buy stuff from them, before MAAP. They used to offer an additional 20% off for multi item purchases (on eBay). I got quite a few Spydies at bargain prices.

This is one of the IMO pretty okay Chicago things. When I moved from the city out to the 'burbs I realized that Chicago proper people deserve to be snobby; I mean, they get all the murders so they should get to own the name. That said, if you were on vacation and someone asked where you were from it would be a lot more useful to say Chicago than Skokie.

Now Malort on the other hand, that dumpster-juice is a tradition I can't get behind.

I've bought from them, including one order that had an issue (chipped tip on arrival) that they made good on - full refund with prepaid return label. They were a bit slow to respond, although this was at the start of the COVID lockdowns so probably excusable.

In short, definitely recommended.

Edit - the broken knife was drop shipped from Blue Ridge Knives in Virginia, so I can't even fault Chicago Knife Works for not having checked it first.

My girlfriend is Chicago proper and I hear this whole thing all the time:D:D:D Malort though, that was a hit at my last company when I had clients from out of town. “Here, you gotta try dis, only in Shukawgo!”

Ordered from them several times and had to return some items I didn't care for. No problems. They oftn have the lowest prices on certain brands.

At Christmas time, IIRC, I ordered a ZT450CF, and I was satisfied, with the experience. I bought from them, on Amazon. I'd buy directly from them, in the future, if I can, as it saves them 15%. Personally, I'd rather the business gross a bit more profit, so they can keep their doors open. I know, if not on Amazon, folks won't, possibly, see them, or the products. Oh well, so goes life! What was the question, again?

I recently placed two orders with them. With the first order, I received a knife with the handle lifting apart. I sent it back with a prepaid label supplied by them, and that was the last I heard. It has been over two weeks since they received it. I have left phone messages and sent multiple emails, but so far, no response. I'm wondering if I'm out a knife?

How did you pay?
