China Buck vs. USA Buck

I'd send em back and ask for better examples.

I love a good Buck knife, and I will continue to purchase from them.

However, I do agree that QC needs improved.

While the warranty is awesome, Buck is still the brand that I have to use it the most.

I don't have much time on BF myself but want to share my experience and respond. Only thing is I don't think I have a Chinese-made Buck so can't compare as I wanted specifically USA-made, and bought only USA-made so far. Also, I am a new member of BCCI and Buck Knives official site.

I generally understand your frustration with receiving a newer Buck knife, especially a higher end 119, and not getting a pristine knife, especially with many claiming their F&F is overall excellent (I understand that this is vague, but the idea that I've experienced in others sharing regarding Buck is there stuff may be gritty, blade centering may not be perfect, etc., but not much else is wrong or an occasional QC issue).

It's difficult to understand the lack of tact used in the second half of phidz frustrating expression and venting (lots of venting) without more context bc all I know is this is phidz first Buck...so I am unsure.

So I am attaching some pics of a large purchase I recently made directly from Buck. I am a details guy and have been in some form of QC or another for over 20 years...anyways my point is really two-fold since I am new to Buck:

1) Here are some pics to show the quality I received last week or so (I had an order with many knives and about 1/3 were not up to a good standard, I just have nothing to compare to personally)

2) What SHOULD quality control look like on Buck knives TODAY and THIS YEAR (What should the consumer EXPECT to receive)? Then perhaps there will be more accountability (if something is done wrong or lack of QC) and less headache from consumers expectations.

If there is a better place to post or address QC issues, please let me know as well. Also, I have already emailed support sometime last week and am awaiting a response for my many items with many issues.

Pics attached, I believe (I will follow up later as I am not by the items), are of a 119 Pro S35VN (0119GRS1-B) and a 110 Auto Elite (0110BKSA-B).View attachment 2284178

Looking for feedback on what yall think 🤔

Thanks,
JT

Finally got around to looking at my 119 and taking a photo...

Mine appears to be the same. It is definitely a one-piece handle and NOT hollow. It's a great knife and I wouldn't give it up for any reason.

If you aren't satisfied, return it to BHQ.
Your knife looks like you don't use it. Polished aluminum is a dead giveaway, let us know how it holds up if you actually use it.

Shouldn’t he be allowed to do whatever he wants with his knives? You bought a custom knife to use (I’m presuming, based on the above remark), but you are complaining about a cosmetic factor. Your knife, your prerogative. I’m having a really hard time, though, understanding your hostility to everyone who has offered suggestions. Maybe it’s a cultural thing or maybe you’re on the spectrum or have some other disability which impacts your social skills; maybe some of us are taking your comments out of context since it is a text-based communication; maybe you’re really just a troll who wants to stir the pot. I don’t really know. But nearly every response has been from people who are knowledgeable, both collectors and users of buck knives, trying to help you. Which is why I presume you came to the Buck Knives subforum on the oldest and largest knife forum around in the first place.

I guess if you’re that dissatisfied with the knife that you received, you could call Buck Customer Service and return it. In the meantime, you’re alienating a lot of knowledgeable people who are just trying to help you out in spite of your attitude.

I should clarify my or

Im really not sure why someone would take it so personally. Yeah, dude doesnt use a knife, just keeps it shiny, noting wrong with that but I'm a knife user, not a knife collector. Then you come out and say I have a disability, im on the "spectrum". Im really lost for words. My intention is that USA made buck knifes are not good. Chinese made buck knifes are better. I am not OK with this. Buck knives shouldnt be either...

Dude, you’re in a buck forum. And you’re pretty rude in every post you make. So either a. It’s a cultural thing, b. you have some kind of social skill problem, or c. You’re trolling. I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt as to you not being from the USA or maybe having a challenge that impacts your ability to effectively communicate without coming off as antagonistic and distasteful.

Fan boy? Yup I guess I am since all I carry is a buck 110. You came to a buck forum to whine about buck and be rude to people. If you have a legit problem with the knife, contact Buck customer service. But there is a difference between being dissatisfied and disrespecting the people who offer you suggestions to help you. If you didn’t want the help, you could have always gone to complain to buck on a review page.

Like I said earlier. If you act less like a rude, bigmouth know-it-all to well respected and knowledgeable long-standing users of this site, maybe you’ll learn something. I get it. You’re dissatisfied with a product that maybe should have met more of your standards. It happens. No company is perfect. You have every right to be upset. You don’t have the right to be a rude d-bag to everyone. My .02.

I posted pics too, have you seen the hate from the buck fan boys? One way street here apparently.
You were rude, foul mouthed and condescending from your first post ! Trash talking Buck on the Buck forum is not a good way to introduce yourself. Now you’re playing victim? Wow !
Have you tried contacting Buck to see what they say ? If so I hope it was done with more tact, and what was the response?

P phidz guess I have different expectations for a working knife. But I buy used for the most part. If buying a good-value high-quality knife doesn’t meet your standards, don’t do it. There’s a trade off. You can not like something AND not be a d-bag. It’s not mutually exclusive. I guess I’m irked by this because you came here and have been way out of line with people I respect and whose council I trust when it comes to buck knives. I like to learn and a rude and entitled “know it all” makes a welcoming place less welcoming. Contact Buck about your problems. They’ll probably make it right. If they don’t, it’s probably because you deserved it.

didn't see much use on yours..not sure what youre complaining about on the 119. you're wrong on the handle being 2 pieces. if you're a knife user, as ya claimed, than reprofile the bevel and edge the way ya want and get to using it.

what you don't know is Jeff takes care of his stuff and polishes his knives to keep them like new. a few here do. you assumed he never uses his stuff and that is funny......

I do agree with your post on the Chinese made Buck slipjoints being from a cosmetic standpoint better than the american made ones currently. the usa tooling we've been told in the past is about worn out, and that is part of the reason. it remains to be seen if they'll replace the expensive tooling or stop making the slip joints. that's up to the board and upper management.

I love bucks, that are made in China. Quality knives for the price. BOS heat treatment is good, but there is a QC standard that isnt being met for the USA made knives.

Just spreading the good word that USA bucks are not up to standard. Especially if they charge more for the "USA" stamp.

“Up to standard” is subjective. YOU may not think their QC is great. I have purchased a few USA knives in my time and one or two Chinese Bucks. In my opinion the QC on the USA made knives exceeded that of the Chinese made ones. I will say that, thankfully, Buck seems to do a good job overseeing their Chinese manufacturers because they are a higher quality than most items that come out of China. A bigger issue for me is how well the knife performs. I’ve read in places that the Chinese bucks use a lesser quality steel. I could be wrong though. While the difference is marginal, it keeps the American made bucks a step above the Chinese ones in my opinion because it their use of an inferior material. On another note, I read in a post a few years ago that one of the big Chinese knife companies, maybe Ganzo, makes the Chinese bucks and then turns around and sells “copies” under their own brand. So your opinion that Chinese knives are better is based on your standards, and many of us who prefer the American bucks based our opinion on other factors.
