Hi Guys,
I am looking at a Chinese bushcraft knife, nice classical look, 4inch, D2 blade, flat ground, some jimping and G10 scales with a palm swell. This is not a copy and doesn't pretend to be any brand name (I strongly oppose piracy). I was wondering if anybody has experience with Chinese knives in D2.

PS. I would put the link in, but I am not sure if it's in line with the forum policy

You can do better than the knife you are considering.

And, no, I do not believe you can put the link in.

Don't paste a link brother!!
I have no experience with Chinese D2, but if the knife is not made by a recognizable company, I would stay away. How could you possibly know if it really is D2??
JMO!!

I have two Colt thumbstud linerlocks (Chinese made) in D2 and both are excellent. D2 is hard to sharpen, but holds an edge forever.

we knives uses some d2...seems decent in my examples. mystery brand with maybe d2.....who knows?

If the maker says it's D2, I trust them. The Chinese have proven that they can make really nice knives when they want to.

Very true Anthony, and I have a few that have impressed the hell out of me!! WE & Kizer make some amazing knives......I have 2 of each. I trust what they stamp on the blades, but unknown companies out of China, I do not.

So gullible...

I'll sell you a genuine Rolex for $20. Except it says Timex, and the battery is dead, and the strap is broken, and it was stolen from a random funeral casket.

$20 bucks bro.

No need to trust them.
Get the knife, check the steel. if it's bogus, you get a refund.

Thanks for the replies, guys and I totally subscribe to your remarks. In the collection I have a Real Steel in D2 (that I showed off on this forum) and I have no complaints about the blade so far. I also just got an EnZo Camper in D2, that I am planning to do a write-up about when I have time to take it outside. This latest Chinese mystery blade in the post just looks right and seems to have a decent leather sheath, in contrast to what aliexpress sells. I never bought anything there but sometimes browse the blades - the descriptions are just too amusing. If I end up ordering it, I promise to post some comments on it.

not sure if its even D2.

does it say its been cryro or 60hrc give or take? i got a chinese d2 blade that was around that spec and the blade steel is solid. the rest of the knife is junk tho. then again mine is made for cutting not chopping, so i cant say for sure.

Real steal bushcraft knife, is d2 and is cheap for what you get. I was thinking about grabbing one for fun.

If its a generic knife I would be weary. If there is a legitimate name brand behind it I would be less concerned. If you do get a Chinese D2 knife I would avoid any satin finishes as a lot of what Chinese makers call D2 has a large amount of alloy banding which you can see in the satin finish and it almost looks like smear marks running the length of the blade. As for edge retention I have had no issues with Chinese knives labeled D2. D2 is incredibly cheap and readily available. And with so many legitimate companies in china that also do oem work having access to things like M390 and S35VN I wouldnt worry too much.

As I said, I have one of these and I am really happy with it. It's not a zero scandi, there is a micro bevel on it, but that's okay for me. The jimping could not be there for my taste, but it's not aggressive at all. It is a very comfortable knife and it comes with a decent plastic (kydex?) sheath. There are some extensive reviews on youtube, a couple in German, maybe because the knife is marketed by Boker. I don't have much experience with D2, so I followed advice gathere on bladeforums and touched it up with a fine ceramic rod once in a while. I am not sure it was even necessary, but I understand touching up D2 is easier than resharpening it. If you can get it at a reasonable price, go for it.

China is now fully equipped, capable of producing and a global supplier of D2.

Otai Steel, China, produces D2. Funny thing is I actually suspect that most rebranded China steel is actually just D2 which is relatively cheap in the knife world.

It may have even been called China 'Select' Special steel at one time. Whatever it's called, it's still D2 now, whether from China or from the US Farmed from China. Lol.
