Chinese D2

China is now fully equipped, capable of producing and a global supplier of D2.

Otai Steel, China, produces D2. Funny thing is I actually suspect that most rebranded China steel is actually just D2 which is relatively cheap in the knife world.

It may have even been called China 'Select' Special steel at one time. Whatever it's called, it's still D2 now, whether from China or from the US Farmed from China. Lol.

That's true. But can one rely on the online retailer he was considering (it rhymed with Schmaliexschmess, if I recall), to supply one with products containing real deal D2?

I wouldn't.

Nowadays you can get cf and titanium in the knife with real d2 that is constructed like Reate for 80 dollars.

I'd generally trust them to use D2, or at least 9Cr18MoV, it's not like the steel costs them enough to worry about, but the question is whether you can trust them to heat treat it, and even if they do, how do you know what kind of temper they finish it with?

Air hardening tool steel that hasn't been hardened makes tools that are, well, useless.

These guys care about their customer service now too and want to have your business, are passionate about their clones enough to come out with their own models.
The way the steel performs is well worth the money.
The competition is real.

The kindest thing you could do to American manufacturing is to encourage world wide, fierce competition.

Well you have to remember Reate got its start selling on that site. So did Rike. Now I'm not saying that site is 100% safe. Its NOT. But if you know how to do your research and navigate the place its much like ebay. You can get great deals or get scammed really bad. Just have to be an informed consumer.

CKF knives are made in China.
Yes and by the same factory that makes Kevin John knives. In fact custom knife factory used to sell nothing but K.John and other clones before they started CKF. Rumor is even one of the owners of CKF actually owns the K.John name and has it trademarked. I never saw proof of that. But I do know they were heavily into clones before becoming CKF. This is why I kinda laugh when I see their anti clone rhetoric on their site as they were so heavily into clones. They only seemed to care when THEY were being ripped off.

Heh.

That's the way it is with most folks, but most folks are pretty funny, now that you point it out.
