I've been wondering this for a while. I personally don't buy any knives made in China. I just can't and won't for a few reasons. I OWN some but they were gifts from friends and family and I have a rule about trading or selling a knife that someone in my inner circle thought enough of me to buy it. I'll have those until I die. I WILL NOT spend a cent on any knives made in China.
One, they are a communist country. I am a patriot and believe in freedom.
With a few exceptions, most of their knives are cheaply made and of poor quality, especially when it comes to blade steel.
Ok, don't hammer me about the virtues of 8cr13 and Kershaw and CRKT (to name a few). I know what it is and what they are. I'm not a steel junkie or a snob but I prefer super steels for almost all of my knives and some well made 1095 for a few camp and skinning knives.
The Chinese literally are our enemies.
So let's hear what you have to say on the subject and more importantly, what do you see for the future when it comes to Chinese imports and the big box store brands?

I just remembered this. We villify the Pakistani knives like they are poisoning babies, yet we buy indiscriminately from Communist China and talk ad nauseum about the knives in multiple forums.

I should have 2 knives made in China.
A cold steel and a Drop Gent.
I am considering to get a couple of knives from Monterey Bay knives that are also made in China... maybe a Chavez Made by
reste at some point.
But really the “made in China” is holding my horses and I am still thinking about it, even if I like the designs a lot.

but to be honest, I don’t like that and I try to limit that as much as possible.

i prefer to buy American or European products.

i think that it makes even more sense for an hobby.

C’mon, you honestly never noticed how every single Chinese made knife thread quickly degenerates into a complete $#!+ show? In this case it began with decidedly inflammatory comments.

I think that you've made this post about politics rather than knives and that's not appropriate for this section of the forum.

Speaking purely about knives, I'm fine with buying knives from Chinese manufacturers that don't engage in cloning or counterfeiting or from reputable companies that are using Chinese OEM.

Actually some Chinese are very good quality.
I have bought CIVIVI and Kizer knives their great.
It's a touchy subject on BladeForums. Usually here we might debate on a knife or company. But anything political is frowned on.
I started a similar thread as a new member. I can understand the reasoning on not doing this.

There is a political sub-forum here specifically for this sort of commentary. I'm sure you will find plenty of people there to agree with your thoughts.
I wasn't looking for people to agree with me. I was just reading about all the clones and counterfeits coming out of China. That is definitely NOT okay here so why do people buy from CHINA? Is it, "I'll take a stand for America, the makers, and manufacturers, for clones and counterfeits made in China, but I won't bring up the cool knives I want for $20 bucks that are made in China"?

Clones and counterfeits are just not OK, wherever they came from.

i think that can be a topic about that, not even limited to China.

the question of boycotting China is also a topic, but is not directly correlated to clones and counterfeits

to have an interesting discussion, it will be better to address both issues in différents topics / forums
