Chinese Knives - Do you buy them? Will you buy them?

I wasn't looking for people to agree with me. I was just reading about all the clones and counterfeits coming out of China. That is definitely NOT okay here so why do people buy from CHINA? Is it, "I'll take a stand for America, the makers, and manufacturers, for clones and counterfeits made in China, but I won't bring up the cool knives I want for $20 bucks that are made in China"?
Microtech made clones and I won't purchase their products because of it. Mantis and Quartermaster have lied about their wares and used designs without properly compensating the knife makers and I won't purchase their products because of it. My ethics are bound by nationality.

I'm not against it. If a Chinese company offered a knife I liked for a price I thought was fair, I'd buy it. I would do the same for a knife made in any other nation.
IMO, the biggest factor preventing me from purchasing a Chinese knife right now is the lack of value. Why would I pay $200+ for a Chinese knife like a We when there are quality American alternatives for significantly less?

Just out of curiosity, which alternatives are less?

If your motivation to not buy knives manufactured in the PRC is based on politics or personal morals, then I support you completely in your decision. No one can tell you what is right or wrong for you, so long as it doesn't hurt somebody else.
If your motivation to not buy knives manufactured in the PRC is based on quality, then I'll tell you that you've missed some of the finest production knives to come out in the last 10 years. You have no idea what you've missed.
If your motivation to not buy knives manufactured in the PRC is based on a dislike for the culture and and their tacit acceptance of IP theft, I'd say you might be showing your bigotry. Blanket statements about a culture or a group of people are no-go and illustrate a compromised viewpoint.

If you want to discuss some specific knives, I'd be happy to. If you want to discuss the politics of imported knives, this thread belongs elsewhere.

So, what did you want to discuss exactly?

It's virtually impossible to not buy chinese made stuff.
But I try to buy American made when I can.
Whenever I see someone carrying a chinese made knife, I just guess they have a very restrictive budget and can't afford American made knives.

I said this in an earlier thread on chinese knives, and it's still true...

I simply cannot carry a chinese made knife.
For me, there's no pride in doing so...and it's even a little embarrassing.

Just out of curiosity, which alternatives are less?
I just checked an online retailer. A We Streak with M390 is $146. A Hogue Ritter in 20cv is $159. So maybe saying for less went too far. But it's certainly very comparable isn't it? At somewhere much closer to an even $100 I might consider the We.

Do you think all knives made in China are $40 or less? A 30 second Google search would clear that right up.

I tried to make that argument in a ganzo thread two days ago but you made it far better than I did with this comment. Your standard Chinese person isn't thinking about things like IP theft or even communism except for how much of a hassle those things might throw into their daily lives. I doubt that majority of Chinese- were they allowed to speak freely- would say they prefer communism over democracy. If a guy can get a job making knockoffs and eat without getting arrested to him it's just a job. Current anti-China sentiment is high simply because we're all hassled by the virus and it's human nature to want to blame somebody even if any country it originated in probably wouldn't have contained it any better. The U.S. sure isn't. If you're buying American because you want to support American makers that's a valid argument but if you're not buying Chinese because you hate Chinese..that's another matter entirely.

I think that you've made this post about politics rather than knives and that's not appropriate for this section of the forum.

Speaking purely about knives, I'm fine with buying knives from Chinese manufacturers that don't engage in cloning or counterfeiting or from reputable companies that are using Chinese OEM.
This sums up my opinion on the subject of the thread and the thread its self.

I kinda feel sorry for the guy carrying an inexpensive chinese made knife.
And for the guy carrying an EXPENSIVE chinese made knife...I feel pity for that man.

I would have more pride carrying a $40 dollar American made (or British made or European made) than any $100+ dollar chinese knife.
In my humble opinion, there is simply no pride in carrying a chinese made knife, or firearm, regardless of the price paid.

When I'm at a knife show I might see a nice looking knife, pick it up to check it out, but once I see "made in China" I just put it down...because I know that I would be embarrassed to carry that knife.

My worldview is such that I prefer to purchase American made knives. I have and will probably buy knives made in Japan but they will need to be a design that I REALLY want.
I doubt very much that I will buy Chinese made knives at all. Too many great American made knives.

When I click "BladeForums.com Political Arena" it shows no threads at all.

Since we can't discuss politics here, I cannot state that I agree with Hale Storm 100% for political reasons and won't buy anything produced in China unless I have to, knives for sure since I don't have to; but I do agree with him, although officially you don't know it.

I do things "by the book". Seriously.

Maybe you haven't looked at the right level. Go take a look at the $250 plus knives and see the level of quality that's there. The fact that you are willing to carry other knives from other countries but somehow feel embarrassment for knives from China is somewhat prejudicial.

You need to have a paid membership on BF to see it.
