ok guys i knooooow a lot of you will say to buy them both, or all...buuut my funds will only allow one,for now...so which one is over all better.. the 5 or 6?..and im talking about badass can handle any situation or chore put in front of it..i actually just bought a 3 like 2-3 weeks ago..but incase my three isnt available i would want it to handle the lil jobs as well..now im diggin the thickness of the 5, and the length of the 6...so could you guys help with the pros and cons of the thickness and the length of both knives..thanks..geez i feel like an addict...im glad my support group (ESEE Blade Forum) is here in my time of need ..lol

hi, truthfully either one will do anything you want. for me i prefer the 6 because it cuts better has alittle longer blade and balances better for me. i like the 5 and if it was an inch longer i would be all over it. as is the 6 is my choice and recomendation.

I'm by no means an expert. The question of the 5 or the 6 has come up pretty often and the consensus seems to opt for the 6 overall. A little lighter and it can pretty much do anything the 5 can.

I was on the fence with this choice as well and opted for the 6. I like the longer blade. The blade thickness at 3/16 is more than adequate for some hard work.

The 5 is a very beefy knife. And the only thing I can compare it to without owning one is the Becker BK2...which I do own. They're very similar overall and let me tell you, a quarter inch blade is indeed quite stout and more than durable, but doing some fine work with it will prove a tad more challenging.

The solution is to get both. :D

Either knife is a great choice for a "big knife", I just think the 6 has some slight advantages to the 5 overall.

Go with your gut, you'll love either one of them.

I don't own either one, but the 6, with its full height flat grind and thinner blade, will be a better slicer and all-around performer. Keep in mind that although the 5 is thicker, the 6 is by no means a flimsy knife.

I had a six and while I liked it, its a good knife, etc etc. It just wasn't for me and I parted with it. The five kinda has my eye.

Two entirely different blades, even though dimensions are similar. The ergonomics are deceptively different. I went with the 5 and am extremely glad I did.

If you are doing things that would break the 6 you need to carry a miny pry-bar or a becker tac-tool pry-bar knife. The 6 just does knife jobs better by design. It will hold up with any job a knife is asked to do and than some. With the warranty and all the hard use knife guys on here that own a 6 if they broke easy ESEE would be out of business.

i appreciate all the replies fellas...but im kinda leaning towards the 5...and possibly putting a saber convex on the edge..kinda like this fellas on youtube..it also looks pretty badass as well..i know the maintenance will be a lil more on it, but it will get used so much im not worried.

he makes it look so easy..i would be kinda nervous doing it, seeing how it would be a first..i might have to use some of my cheap knives to practice on lol..

5.

You answered your own question. :p

I don't have the 6, so I really can't speak. I made my own thread with the same question and people steered me into buying the 6.
I ended up with the 5 :D

I love the knife.

Ha. That's like the same thing I just said. Seems to be what 70% of the people say and think.

How about looks? Forget cutting and usage aspects. I think the 5 is hotter than the 6 personally. :D

Ha. Doing the same thing I did. Ignore everybody's comments and buying the 5. Do it, order it right now!!

Like homegirl said, you'll be back to buying the 6 next month or next pay period. ;)

I don't see what weight has to do with anything anyway... if people are getting picky over a few ounces and use that to make their choice, then... the funny part is the blade length difference is negligible as well... like half an inch, maybe less.

I like my 5, I don't have the 6 but I have the old rat 7, almost the same blade, but the 5 and the 6 are two different blades.......the 6 you would stick in a hog to kill it, the 5 you'd stick in a car door to kill it.......

I don't see where anyone has mentioned the weight difference in this thread.
It must be improtant to you, since you bring it up in any discusion about the 2 blades.
I do, however, see people commenting on the difference in feel and balance -- which is exactly why I prefer the 6. It feels more alive in my hand. YMMV.
Both are good blades, I like the 6 better than the 5 beause it works better for me and the types of tasks I use a knife that size for.

I bring it up in every conversation because in 95% of them it is a factor, and people complain about the 5 being too heavy. I don't see why it's not pertinent to this conversation if it is in every other one... I don't see how you can get off assuming it is a factor for me (obviously, I bought the 5 over the 6...) but whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

I suspected it must be important to you because you bring it up in every thread you post in about the knife.
It's not pertinent in this discussion because no one else seemed to care. Several months back someone posted about the different weight making the balance radically different and you seem to have been on a rant ever since making statements about people being wimps if they think carrying an extra 1/4 pound makes a difference.
I happen to agree, on my hip I don't notice the difference in weight - OTOH, in hand the 5 feels dead to me where the 6 feels alive.
not picking on you, trying to make you feel worse about yourself, or trying to make myself feel good about myself - was just curious, no need to go all defensive.
Like I said in my post YMMV - you like the 5, I prefer the 6. Nothing wrong with either choice.

If you can show me, I'd like to see it-I don't think I use wimp in my everyday vocabulary.... oh how I love being misquoted around here. There's a difference between me calling someone a wimp and pointing out the small difference in overall weight of the two knives and its invalid arguement as a major difference between the two blades.
