Last night at 8:10 Chokpa was crossing Virginia Steet on her way home from work at the Atlantis Casino (where we had the HI convention) and a guy ran a red light and hit her. She was knocked unconscious and lay in the street for five minutes until some good Samaritan stopped, picked her up and brought her home. The guy who hit her just kept on going and I believe the reason for this action was he knew he was drunk. A sober person would have stayed at the scene and would have attempted to help -- unless the person was/is just a low life son of a bitch!
Sorry for the profanity but there are times when it is needed to express the exact feeling.

Chokpa is now in the ER at St. Mary's where I had my bypass surgery. Yangdu and Vikash are there with her and I am here trying to carry on without much success.

I don't ordinarily make bad news posts but I want all to know if we are not up to speed here, orders delayed, email not answered quickly, phone calls cut short, there is a good reason. We will try to get back to normal ASAP.

The good news is Chokpa is alive and I pray her injuries are not overly serious and that she will recover soon and fully. If anybody else would care to throw up a prayer or some smoke for Chokpa we all would appreciate it immensely.

She is a sweet, good little girl and does not deserve this.

Sorry to hear about that, Bill. I will keep her in my thoughts.

I suppose I should be incredulous at no reports, no bystanders getting the license numbers, no one calling an ambulance. I'm not. I would not blame you for being outraged at both what has happened to her and to our country.

We see eye to eye on use of profanity. It should be reserved for use only in the very most appropriate circumstances, or alternatively as "fighting words". This situation with Chopka qualifies.

On second thought I won't say what I think would be appropriate to do if the culprit is found other than it involves a mineshaft.

Bill, let me echo my good friend Brian's sentiments and send some good energy her way.

Let her know that her extended family is thinking of her.

Uncle Bill, please convey my best wishes to Chokpa. I share Rusty's view that Chokpa's situation says a lot about the state of America today -- and what it says is not good. Though I'm not a particularly violent person, I would really like to have a few minutes alone with the low-lived, scum-sucking piece of pig excrement who hit this little girl then drove away leaving her to possibly die.

Awful news. As if America weren't already a strange enough place for her as a newcomer, now she'll get the full-on hospital trauma unit experience. I've got my fingers crossed for her. The healing powers of the young are never to be underestimated.

More good wishes for Chokpa from this corner of the country! I hope she's ok and recovers fully. I won't say more now.

Paul

Sadness. Bill, yes I am and yes I will. For all of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting this young lady, she brightens any room and lifts the spirits of all around her even if that isn't her intent.

Another sad point is: the person that hit her may not even know that he/she hit any one or anything until they see the dammage to thier car. I know that it's hard to believe, but it happens more often than might be realized.

Pray that a full awarness of what happened settles in on the mind of the perpetrator.

Again, I'm so sorry, but I will pray and ask others to do so as well: For the full recovery of Chokpa.
Dan

Chopka and her family as well as your self are in my prayers. Keep us posted on how she is doing. May the person responsible be brought to justice as well.

Bill--speaking for myself, feel free to close up the computer shack and go on over to the hospital. The waiting is hard wherever you do it, but there's good in everybody being together.

I agree with Mochiman, shut the computer down. I am sure everyone will understand why we can't talk about knives for a day. Tell Chopka I hope she is on the way to a speedy recovery.

Our hearts are with you and Chokpa, Bill. I wish her a speedy and full recovery, as do we all.

Sorry, but I do better when I am doing something. I have had enough of that hospital for awhile and I would be more harm than good if I were there. I am a worrier and a pacer and get angry when things do not go well. I am better off right here but thanks again for such kind consideration.

I will add my good wishes on to those expressed by everyone else, and hope for a speedy full recovery.
