I voted for different/better sheaths. The only reason I haven't bought a BK2 yet is because of the dulling issue/general dislike of the sheath, and the rattle on the neckers/eskabars. I know they are working on the eskabar sheaths already. I don't have much money to spend so I'm not able to buy knives and then have to buy new sheaths for them.

Hmm, I'll have to think about this. I don't want a different steel, the KaBar carbon is quality stuff, so let's not mess with a good thing. No stainless. I don't give a rats ass about coating color, black is sleek and easy. I think the sheath, handle options, or gear/kit are interesting. Don't know which I like more.

If we could get a Becker model with the factory-made micarta, and a kydex sheath on par with the quality of Chesnut Ridge Knife Shop, then I'd be a super happy customer. A Crewman with the above would rock like hell.

I've ordered a BK2 from Chestnut Ridge, with black micarta handles, and their kydex sheath. The handle choice is clear.

I voted sheath.
My Camillus BK11 sheath is perfect. My Gen-1 Ka-bar BK2 sheath is... eh. Love the knife, though.

Ok, so I went with the A2 stainless feature. I like choices and I think having a stainless option is a good thing. I'm not trying to take ANYTHING away from the high carbon steel that we're all carrying now, but I really like A2.

That, and maybe some tweeners... ;)

i voted different handle materials. a close second is gear and kit options. it'd be nice if there were several pouch accessories but mighty1 already posted that an esee pouch works and then there's maxpedition stuff so that space is really crowded.

what i'd really like to see is an orange g10 scales. it's probably the least amount of work tooling-wise since it's the same shape just a different material and color. ka-bar can produce different scales pretty quickly i'd imagine as opposed to new pouches, steels, etc. which will require a ton of r&d. these past few weeks i've been getting rid of knives i don't use anymore and buying duplicates of the knives i really like.

what's missing in the above pic? an orange g10 scales bk-2 to go along with my black one!

I voted sheath due to my experience with the BK-9 sheath. For me it was mandatory to get a better sheath solution.

I went with the sheath option, because I like the handle as it is. Of course there is always room for improvement there, as well (like micarta or G10...). These two that I would not mind to see some new options.

yup, the bk-9 desperately needs a better sheath. as a temporary solution, the bk-9 fits just fine in the junglas' sheath.

People,
A2 is NOT stainless steel, although it has some chromium, rather it is a tool-steel.

I stand corrected. :o At only 5% chromium, it is indeed not "stainless". I dare say that it is more corrosion resistant than 1095, but perhaps less so than D2.

Regardless, I would still like to have an A2 option if for nothing more than it's edge retention. A little harder to sharpen, but the edge does last longer, IMO...

I like my BK-2 sheath just fine but if/when I get my BK-9... I dunno. My son's BK-7 sheath was a rattling monster until he jammed a bunch of sliced up inner tube in there. It's tolerable now but I'm thinking a better sheath would be a very welcome upgrade.

i think KaBar should license Ethan's backpacks from Eagle (who got bought out anyway, right?) and well, have the ultimate haul around all your Beckers bag ;)

mmm, well. i dunno. having orange plastic handles would be awesome (not micarta)... could be fun.

or some model in another special steel (like the San Mai variant, but say, in D2 or something "sick" sprint run only, heck, serial numbers)

otherwise, i'm pretty happy.

What did you wind up going with? I don't mind the sheath too much, though the rattle and the fact that a bit of the blade can be exposed is somewhat of an issue. I like the spec-ops sheaths, though it's too big....giggidy.

I saw the junglas sheath above. Though then I'd be tempted to get that knife

I vote sheath.

If I could easily get a Becker with a leather sheath, I would be a happy man. I know there are custom ones out there, but I'm a tad too poor for that sort of thing.

In regards to the other options:

-I like the current steel used, so I'll pass on that. Is A2 stainless? I thought it was a "tool" steel.

-Different coating colours? Meh. I strip all my blades anyway, so I'll pass. I prefer the raw steel look for increased visibility when I put a knife down in the woods. Also less friction when wood working.

-Handle material? We already have the optional micarta slabs... so that's not really a big one.

-Gear and kit options? Make your own!

So, in short, give me leather production sheaths!! Haha.

BK-2 in a leather sheath, micarta grips, with a stripped blade reprofiled into a steep convex grind.... oh man. That sounds nice.
